If we were ever in need of some soul-soothing routines and rituals, then it would be now. The last months have been hard, and they’re set to get harder still as our freedoms and liberties are once again suspended as we battle through this pandemic. I’m all for a little regular pampering, and make time at least on a weekly basis for a long soak in the bath while surrounded by the most invigorating and effective beauty products I can find in my cabinet; now that ritual has become even more regular and even more important, as just an hour out of your day to look after yourself goes a really long way.
One such brand that I’m definitely rediscovering to help is Aromatherapy Associates; at one time an absolute staple in my bathroom, their oils feature only the most beautiful and luxurious individual components to provide an incredibly evocative pampering experience. I adore their ‘Relax’ oil (and it’s guaranteed to get me in the perfect place for sleep) but their newly re-launched and expanded Rose collection definitely appeals to my wider senses as a fragrance that holds so many positive and comforting memories.
Anything that can help transport me away while soothing my body and mind is a winner in my book, and the five piece Aromatherapy Associates Rose Reimagined collection is just what we all need during these darker and colder nights. Whether you pick one hero or indulge in the whole lot, the combination of Rose, Geranium and Palmarosa is undoubtedly a beautiful one you’ll certainly want to get to know…
Rose Bath Oil* (£49.00)
The staple of the rose collection, this is Aromatherapy Associates at its best. A capful is all you need to fill your bathroom with the beautiful scent of opulent Rose, powdery Geranium and rich Palmarosa, caressing your senses and helping to transport the mind – something we could all do with right now. It’s scent is comforting, rich and more sweet than floral; a true modern day interpretation of an iconic classic.
Rose Bath & Shower Oil* (£26.00)
My personal hero from the collection, this beautiful oil glides over skin with an evocative and soothing scent that I find incredibly comforting; when mixed with a little water it gently foams to provide a luxurious shower experience that’s definitely to be kept for those days when you need it most. I personally love to step out of the water to massage it into skin and enjoy the ritual, before letting the water work it into a gentle lather. In addition to the beautiful essential oils, the inclusion of Jojoba Seed Oil helps to tackle dryness, redness and irritation, encouraging calm, comfortable and hydrated skin.
Rose Pink Clay Mask* (£40.00)
Designed to be used pretty much top to toe, this surprisingly lightweight mask is enriched with mineral-rich French Pink Clay, hydrating Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter. It claims to deeply condition and remove impurities, while providing protection against environmental stressors – but to be honest it’s just a lovely pre-cleansing ritual. Although you’re encouraged to use it as a hair and face mask, I personally would opt for more targeted treatments and leave this for your limbs and limbs alone. I’ve been applying it pre-bath to my arms and legs for ten minutes, gently massaging it away when I’ve stepped into the tub, and it definitely leaves my skin feeling smooth and rejuvinated. It may be a bit of a faff to use on the regular, but while we’ve all got the time for a little extra pampering why the hell not?
Rose Triple Exfoliator* (£38.00)
You either love or hate body scrubs, but this beautifully transcends the body treatment category to provide a gentle and skin-boosting exfoliating treatment. Combining ‘botanical microspheres’ of Corn Cob granules, Bamboo and Rose Water-infused Jojoba to gently slough away dead skin cells and impurities, this isn’t at all harsh. It may be my least favourite of the collection, and the one I think is probably a little unnecessary, but that doesn’t make it any less of a beautiful addition to your routine if you fancy it.
Rose Hand Cream* (£20.00)
Grape, Jojoba, Sunflower, Olive, Murala and Evening Primrose oils are combined with Shea Butter for a hand cream that’s lightweight, non-greasy and soothing. The scent provides a moment of escapism alongside the nourishing experience, but this is a real indulgence rather than a necessity. Although this would make a great stocking filler, there are far superior hand creams available for a fraction of the price if you’re after function over form.
I’ll be happily reaching for every product in this collection for the next month, fully embracing the opportunity to indulge and look after myself in whichever little way I can. Although I’d probably only re-purchase the Bath Oil or Shower Oil, every single one of the rose enriched treats is certainly a welcome escape from the world as we know it.
