If there’s one thing the last year has taught me, it’s that I can quite happily go makeup-free for days on end. Having nowhere to be and nobody to see really makes you question those minutes spent in front of the mirror, so it’s been quite a liberating experience to find my diary completely blank and wondering whether or not it’s even worth attempting to put on something that’s not a tracksuit. While my lashes may be quite happy mascara free and my cheeks content in their natural state, there is one product that I can’t be without – a really great lip balm.
You can often find quite a few variations lingering at the bottom of my bag and in every pocket, for I hate the feeling of dry or tight lips; I probably apply a slick of the good stuff too often, but it’s become somewhat of a ritual to take those few seconds out from whatever it is that has my attention. I’m not here for overtly sticky, sweet, thick or drying formulas that leave my pout feeling worse than it did before, so my collection has definitely been narrowed down to some firm faves that I just keep going back to.
Although you don’t have to spend a small fortune to get a decent lip balm (Burt’s Bees are super affordable and one of my all-time faves – read more about why here!) it can be a real mood lift if you reach for a little luxury. Especially when we can’t remember the last time we washed our hair or went anywhere but the supermarket, that little moment can bring a welcome amount of joy; the majority aren’t splurging on indulgences right now, but a little pot of luxe can really make all the difference if you need to treat yourself. (We always need to treat ourselves right!)
And what better way to indulge your senses than with a luxurious rose infusion? There’s something about the scent that just transports me away and makes me feel like a proper grown-up. Here are three of my go-to luxury lip balms that always provide a little pick me up when I need it most…
By Terry Baume De Rose* (£40.00)
I mean, this has achieved cult-like status for good reason: it’s absolutely beautiful. The non-sticky but rich formula helps to nourish, repair and protect the lips while providing a delicate rose scent and a subtle sheen. It marries the line between skincare and cosmetic perfectly, delivering a tangible difference while feeling like you’ve just bathed your lips in something that helps them to look their best. An absolute go-to for me, I also adore the ‘lipgloss’ Flaconette version that comes packaged with an applicator so you don’t have to dip your fingers in the pot.
Alpha H Liquid Gold Perfect & Plump* (£32.00)
Designed to not only help protect and soothe, this luxurious balm also features naturally plumping ingredients to help deliver a little added boost to your pout. I experience a very mild tingling sensation when I apply, which subsides after a few minutes, which is definitely a welcome moment of invigoration come 3pm! The formula is also infused with 24K gold flecks (who knows why!) antioxidants and super hydrating ingredients, resulting in the ultimate little indulgence.
Kure Bazaar Lip & Nail Balm* (£28.00)
Incredibly nourishing and caring, this multi-use balm contains a beautiful combination of organic Shea and Cocoa Butters, Vitamin E, Candelila Wax, Beeswax and Squalene. An infusion of rose provides a delectable and addictive scent, while the 100% natural formula is incredibly lightweight to leave skin feeling soothed without being overloaded. This sits permanently on my bedside table and is my pre-bedtime go to, getting to work as I sleep so I can awake with comfortable and smooth lips; you can also use it on any dry patches or cuticles, making it a real multi-tasking wonder.
All three of these are pricey, but they last such a long time and bring so much joy that (in my opinion) they’re absolutely worth it.
Which of these three luxury lip balms would you pick?
