AD: Sponsored Feature In Partnership With Very
I’ve never been good with uncertainty; I like to be able to prep and plan, develop a strategic plan of action and know what steps I need to take in order to reach my end goal. With the ever changing landscape we face globally, it’s easy to find yourself veering off course or spiraling into an anxious state that plays havoc with every area of your life – from sleep and energy levels, to eating habits and focus. But there’s one place that you’ll always be able see whatever stresses and strains you’re under, and that’s your face.
Stress causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive, meaning that dullness, dryness, irritation or breakouts are much more likely if you’re not feeling your usual self. If you’re starting to see the effects of the last nine months on your skin, and you’re in desperate need of a little boost ahead of the tougher Autumn-Winter season, then there are a few simple things you can do to support your complexion and get your glow back.
EMBRACE THE POWER OF STEAM
When I was a teenager I used to spend ages with my face over a sink full of boiling water, attempting to clear out my pores and leave my skin looking fresher; it was an old wives tale that was passed down from generation to generation, and regurgitated in every teen magazine going. It may sound incredibly retro, but there’s definitely something in this steam business.
Just 10 minutes a day with the Magnitone Steam Ahead Hydrating Facial Microsteamer will help to leave skin more hydrated and noticeably more radiant, as well as helping to improve the absorption of your skincare products. Not only does steam open up your pores to soften blackheads and make them easier to remove, but it loosens dirt for a deeper clean while promoting blood circulation too – and this little affordable gadget ensures you get all the steam your skin needs within an easy daily ritual you can truly enjoy. Use morning or evening on a thoroughly cleansed face.
GET YOUR DAILY VITAMIN C
Now is not the time to start skipping steps or neglecting a decent routine; ensuring you’re giving skin exactly what it needs will pay dividends in the long term, and Vitamin C is a pretty universal glow-boosting wonder ingredient that everyone can benefit from. I’m a huge fan of Vitamin C, thanks to its multi-faceted benefits that deliver free radical protection alongside skin evening and collagen boosting properties; the result, with regular use, is a complexion that’s smooth, plump and radiant – and who doesn’t want that!
If you’re not sure where to start, then you can’t go wrong with Pixi’s Best of Vitamin C collection; it contains a Brightening Face Toner to help slough away dead skin, as well as a Brightening Moisturiser and Leave-On Mask to boost the goodness your skin deserves. No matter your age or specific skin concern, everyone can benefit from a little Vitamin C in their lives. (Read more about why I’m such a Vitamin C fan here.)
FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT
It can take around 4-6 weeks to start seeing any real changes on the skin’s surface, so until the day you wake up with a complexion that a Disney Princess would be proud of, faking it is always a great option. Why not try skincare with an added boost, like the Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser? Not only does it hydrate and prime the skin, but an energising blend of Kombucha and Fermented Ginger helps to brighten alongside illuminating microminerals that impart a subtle radiance. The texture is beautifully light and adds a little extra glow to skin where you need it most – whether you use it alone, under makeup or as a hydrating highlighter throughout the day. If you fancy a bit more, then dusting a little highlighting powder over your cheekbones and along the bridge of the nose will make all the difference.
BOOST YOUR BEDTIME
Sleep is often overlooked as one of the most important ingredients in a great beauty regime. Research has shown that even one poor night of sleep can cause swollen eyes, dark circles, more prominent fine lines and even sagging skin around the jawline. If we regularly get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep a night we’ll undoubtedly benefit from a multitude of visible improvements in our skin: with more collagen skin appears fuller, more youthful and fine lines appear reduced, while adequate blood flow and drainage will ensure the under-eye area is less puffy and free from dark circles. Investing in your bedtime routine will undoubtedly have a beneficial impact on more than just your mood, so getting it right has never been more of a priority.
I’m a big fan of pillow sprays and pulse point roller balls to help relax my senses, and the aromas have been proven to help our bodies to produce melatonin – a hormone which promotes restful sleep. Something like the Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Mind Roller Ball, applied to pulse points an hour before bed, will help us to organise our thoughts and ensure we slip between the sheets ready to sleep. The massaging motion of applying a little L’Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream also helps to alleviate anxieties and stress and allowing your mind time to switch off; the added bonus is that it’s incredibly nourishing, leaving parched hands looking and feeling so much better in an instant.
It’s also worth investing in a great overnight treatment with skin boosting qualities, as well as a great fragrance, and the Emma Hardie Brilliance Facial Oil ticks so many of my boxes. Enriched with nine essential oils (including Orange, Mint, Vanilla, Chamomile, Lemon, Rose and Lavender) this not only helps to treat your skin to a nourishing blast of goodness, but the scent is equally as beneficial to your mind; those notes help to trigger the sense of calm and readiness for sleep that make all the difference.
With these pretty simple additions and adjustments you’ll be able to reclaim that glow in no time.
I take no responsibility for the benefits that follow 😉
