Breathing in the warm air and the calming scents of my evening bath is all I need to reset. Perhaps its the ritualistic cleansing away of the day’s stresses, worries or dilemmas, or just the opportunity to take a rare disconnected moment with nothing other than a good book, but there’s nothing that benefits me as much as a long soak. The products I surround myself with during these precious times are those which offer me a little extra pampering, that look after my body as much as my mind, and feel more luxurious than they do functional – and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Over the years I’ve found myself navigating towards brands such as Jo Malone London, Molton Brown, Aromatherapy Associates, Neom and The White Company, but with their luxury comes a hefty price tag; saving them for a special occasion often means they linger on my bathroom shelf looking pretty but unused, while every drop added to a steaming bath can feel somewhat over indulgent for a Tuesday.
Thanks to a recent discovery though, that’s all set to change: the Marks & Spencer Apothecary bathing range combines the benefit of luxury with a more affordable price tag, so everyone can enjoy an indulgent moment of calm and self-care any day of the week – without feeling guilty for using £14.00 of bath salts in one sitting.
With three fragrance collections within the Marks & Spencer Apothecary range, there’s something for every mood and desire.
Calm combines Lavender, Sweet Orange, Clary Sage and Cedar wood for an earthy but invigorating scent experience. Unisex in its appeal and perfect for using after those long days rushing around, this really does awaken the senses and provide a sense of contentment. Balance is my personal favourite, combining the scents of Black Pepper with Geranium, Cinnamon Leaf and Guaiacwood (a tobacco-woody fragrance) to provide a rich but uplifting experience. Restore provides an invigorating mix of Geranium, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus and Lavender which would be perfect on cold winter nights or when you’re not feeling 100%.
The three scents are available in bath salts (£6.50), soap (£4.00) and body wash (£7.50) as well as hand wash, hand lotion, candles and room diffusers to extend that experience and bring a little luxury scent to your home. You’d be forgiven for mistaking these for three or four times their price point, so is the richness and complexity of the fragrance so premium; but it’s the simplified and very Aesop-esque packaging that sets these apart from many other affordable bath ranges.
Unlike many household names that you’d be happy to have stashed in your bathroom but wouldn’t necessarily be on display, the entire Marks & Spencer Apothecary bath range is incredibly luxe and totally giftable. I adore the dark glass bottles and stoppers on the bath salts, as well as the paper packaging of the little soaps that definitely stop them feeling like you should pick one up for your Nan; this has been well thought through and is a beautiful range for anyone wanting to treat themselves – or a loved one.
And better still, everything (except the candle and diffuser) comes in under £8.00!
