If there’s one thing that stimulates universal fear amongst women, it’s the thought of having to go shopping for jeans. As a curvy woman with more booty than a pirate with extra hand luggage, finding jeans to fit can be a struggle; if they fasten around the hips then often there’s an excessive amount of space around the waist, while my short frame but long legs mean most styles linger somewhere unintentional around the ankle. So often a pair I *think* fit in the shop actually fall down or are uncomfortably tight when I wear them at home, and as a result there’s a pile of rejected styles under my bed that will never see the light of day again. But finally, after a lengthy search comparable to hunting down the holy grail, I’ve found the best jeans for curvy girls – and they cost less than twenty quid.
After a long time looking I’ve finally found a style that works for me and I’m definitely falling in love with them all over again, pairing them with everything from plain white tees and trainers to fancy tops and embellished sandals. So where are these perfect jeans from? The humble high street staple Marks & Spencer.
My personal preference is for a skinny jean, which you may think odd for a woman with curves; but I find them more flattering, helping to create a sleeker and slimmer silouette, and better to wear with my chosen style of floaty oversized tops. The Marks & Spencer Ivy Skinny Jean ticks all my boxes, offering a material that’s thick enough to feel like a jean but soft enough to be comfortable and thin enough to prevent overheating in the summer. They’re available in a multitude of colours and also three lengths, so you bet your dollar I’ve stocked up on pretty much all of them.
Unlike a lot of skinny jeans, they actually have proper pockets (front and back) which is a massive bonus – plus I find they rise high enough to stop my belly from falling out or the jean from falling down as I move. They’re super comfortable, relatively stretchy and hold their shape beautifully; there’s nothing not to love, including the amazing price of £19.50.
The firm fave is definitely the ‘Medium Indigo’ in regular, but I’ve also got them in a shorter length for wearing with trainers or sandals, as well as in the Dark Blue Denim shade which I wore more in the colder months. They’re just so versatile that I’m tempted to also get them in white for the summer, as well as stocking up on duplicates so I’m never without my fave trousers.
Fitting true to size, you really can’t go wrong with these; they really are the best jeans for curvy girls. You’re welcome.
