THE WORLD’S FIRST BLUETOOTH HAIR STRAIGHTENER:
Glamoriser’s Bluetooth Smart Straightener
Women are unified by the feeling of dread that accompanies rushing out the door in the morning, only to wonder whether you actually remembered to turn off your hair straighteners. So many of us have seen that episode of Friends that starts with Rachel leaving her curling iron on and ends with a charred apartment, and it’s done as much for our safety as it has for our paranoia; too many times I’ve worried about getting a call from the fire brigade and too many times I’ve returned home to ruined sheets from leaving my chosen tool simmering away for eight hours. Heated appliance anxiety is a very real and very modern phenomenon – but thanks to the world’s first bluetooth hair straightener, there’s now an app for that!
Glamoriser’s Bluetooth Smart Straightener* is a styling tool with a difference; thanks to their simple yet innovative app technology you can create your own profile that enables bespoke styling tips and device control at the touch of a button. After answering a few simple questions you’re provided with a recommendation of heat setting, based on your hair type and condition, that ensures a healthier looking ‘do alongside consistent results every time you use the tools.
Often inconsistent temperatures are the reason we can’t quite nail the look today that we created yesterday, while using a very high heat setting can cause damage to already weakened hair; we have a tendency to pick the highest heat setting that’s available, but this shows and encourages us to turn down the temperature to one more suited to our needs – and that’s something I’m 100% on board with. Sometimes the simplest ideas (and executions) are all you need to make a positive change to your daily regime, and turning those tools down by even a small amount will make a difference in the long term. (Read more about protecting your hair from heat damage and styling tools here.)
Although the app itself is quite basic and dated, it locks in the temperature that’s right for you while allowing you to programme in an automatic shut-off point (between 5 and 20 minutes) to ensure you never leave the house with your straighteners on again.
After sending that info to the tool via Bluetooth pairing, you’re good to go.
The straighteners themselves are lightweight, glide over hair easily and create the results I’ve come to expect from my GHDs; my hair is left soft and smooth, with a perfect amount of wave when used as a curling wand, but the bonus is these come in at around half the price (I’ve found them online for £54.99, usual RRP £129.00, vs £109.00 for a standard set of GHDs.) Although they don’t offer any kind of superior user experience or results in comparison to any other stylers I’ve tried, if you’re in the market for a new pair of hair straighteners these are a wise investment – especially if you’re prone to leaving them turned on!
I just hope they update the app at some point in the near future to make it more user friendly, as well as adding some kind of hacker-proof pairing functionality. (I did stumble across an article by Allure that discusses how easy it is to hack into these, so be wary if you have any nemesis neighbours in the vicinity!)
