(Introducing NEW Burt’s Bees Cucumber Mint)
We all have those ‘desert island must have’ products that we couldn’t bare to be without, but few warrant the ritualistic appreciation I seem to have built for Burt’s Bees and their iconic lip balm*. I’ve been writing about these little tubes of beeswax for nearly a decade, in whatever flavour or colour they come in, but it’s taken almost as long to realise they’re one of the few products I absolutely can’t be without – no matter the time of year. (Read all my previous posts on Burt’s Bees lipbalm here.) Intentional or not, I seem to have a little yellow tube in every coat pocket and handbag I own – while my husband is quickly following suit, having his own bedside stash after spending many years asking me for mine. (It’s one of the few lip balms he’ll happily use and not chastise for being ‘too girlie’!)
In the past few months I’ve been part of many interviews, magazing articles and panel discussions where inevitably one question always crops up: “What are your absolute must-have beauty products?” And it’s the easiest question for me to answer: a tube of Burt’s Bees lip balm.
Over the years I’ve fallen for Chai Tea, Wild Cherry, Vanilla Bean, Dark Chocolate & Blueberry, Mango, Coconut & Pear, Pink Grapefruit… But now with a few new additions to their range I think I may have found my new fave.
Cucumber Mint* is incredibly refreshing, absolutely unisex and a little bit addictive; it doesn’t overpower you with scent, nor does it take away from anything else you’ve chosen to wear that day (fragranced or otherwise.) It’s uplifting and energetic when the sun is shining, but also comforting and effortless when it’s not; worn alone it treats my lips to a hydration hit, but under or over lipstick it helps to create a comfortable and long-lasting result with added moisture.
I can also highly recommend Chai Tea (especially with the colder weather on the horizon,) Dark Chocolate & Blueberry (smells as good as it sounds) and Coconut & Pear (you can pretend you’re on holiday even when you’re not.) But why Burt’s Bees, over the hundreds of other lip balms available on the market?
For me, their texture is gloriously smooth and leaves my lips feeling protected without being coated in a gloopy or thick substance. Applying it is a pleasure, with no dragging or sticking, and the scent is strong enough to evoke the senses while subtle enough to only hit your own nostrils; their scents are also incredibly realistic and not at all sickly sweet or ‘fake’, unlike many other brands who cause the process to feel almost nauseous.
But most of all, they do so much good for the bees that help to create these iconic tubes.
Not only is the beeswax and honey used in the Burt’s products ethically and sustainably sourced, but Burt’s Bees are a proud supporter of the British Beekeepers Association ‘Adopt a Beehive’ scheme – a charitable project that raises awareness of the importance of honey bees and good beekeeping husbandry, while raising vital funds to support research and education projects. Their #BringBackTheBees campaign also helps to plant 5000 bee-friendly plant seeds for every lip balm sold, so you can look good and do good simultaneously.
Like I need another reason to keep up my love for Burt’s Bees lip balm.
If you’ve not discovered it yet, do so ASAP… If you’re also a fan of Burt’s Bees lip balm, let me know your fave flavour!
