A Last Summer Hurrah At Waddesdon Manor & A Transitional Marks & Spencer Dress I Love

Maybe it’sgot something to do with the fact I spent my summer covered in paint, moving boxes and cooking every meal on the BBQ because we finally got a garden, but the past few months seemed to have passed by in the blink of an eye. It seems like only yesterday I was packing away my jumpers and gleefully sorting through all manner of cotton dresses, but alas the time is almost here to flip reverse it and pack away my fave lightweight pieces in favour of something chunkier to keep the warmth in.

But before then it’s the perfect time for a last summer hurrah; a celebration of the season, and possibly my favourite dress of the entire year. You know when you’re browsing online and you see something that stops you in your tracks, because it’s just so effortlessly ‘you’? That’s how I felt when I spotted this Marks & Spencer cotton shirt dress. I have a thing for white cotton dresses anyway (see another of my faves here,) but the black pattern, cut of the skirt and smartness of the shirt neckline made this right up my street – and a piece I knew I’d wear time and time again.

This was surprisingly cut on the small side so I sized up and it fit beautifully (luckily as they didn’t have my usual size in stock at the time!) It’s comfortable enough to wear on those sweaty days when you just need something to keep you feeling cool and looking fresh, but it’s also a great transitional piece that would look just as good with a biker jacket, tote bag and chunky boots to take you into autumn with ease. Because with the June-September months being so unpredictable in the UK, you need key pieces that you can layer up or strip back and keep you looking chic with very little effort – this is definitely one of those.

Although it’s no longer in stock online, a monochrome shirt dress is such a great addition to your wardrobe, and one that will help you say goodbye to summer and hello to autumn with minimal faff.

By the way, these photos were taken at the fabulous Waddesdon Manor* which is now only a short drive from our house. The manor itself is beautiful, but the grounds are simply stunning and open all year round for you to enjoy; a perfect location to take a weekend wander, no matter the weather.

Thank you! Originally it had a multi-coloured silk scarf around the handle but I took it off so it matched everything!
