Wrap dresses, in my opinion, can be some of the most elegant and effortless additions to any wardrobe. Timeless in style, ageless in appeal, there’s a reason why they keep coming back into fashion – and this year they’re being hailed as a capsule wardrobe essential one again. Every time I see my fave Instagram stars styling up a cute wrap I get a pang of jealousy, knowing they look cute AF but if I attempted to wear the same number I’d be flashing my boobs and knickers in unison; for wrap dresses are mostly not designed to take curves into consideration.
I’ve honestly given up even looking at wrap dresses in most of the high street stores (New Look, Primark and Topshop I’m looking at you!) because of their lack of wriggle room, but when this beaut Lovedrobe number arrived on my doorstep I was more than a little bit excited… For it fits beautifully, is designed for curves and is incredibly flattering.
The handful of times I’ve worn this I’ve received the loveliest of complements from pretty much everyone I’ve come across; colleagues, friends and even shop assistants have said how much they love my dress and asked where it’s from. Not only is the statement print perfectly suited to every occasion (from the office to a wedding,) but the little details make it seem all the more unique and luxe.
I adore the sleeve details that add a subtle amount of femininity, while the oversized tie provides extra support and keeps the wrap style in place all day. Thanks to the generous amount of material in the skirt, there’s also no worry about flashing your bits and bobs unintentionally; so many other brands I’ve tried leave barely enough material to go around once, forgetting the purpose of a wrap dress is to literally wrap around your body! Thankfully this design has been incredibly well thought through.
I actually sized up for fear of flashing, but there was ample room and should have stuck to what I know – but the design of the dress means you can easily pull it in and create the shape you want. Adding a slip underneath is also my secret weapon, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident all day while minimising static; thank goodness for M&S classics!
So if you’re seeking the perfect wrap dress to suit your shape or flatter your curves, here are my top three tips to ensure you get exactly what you’re looking for and feel fabulous:
1. Opt for brands specifically designed for curves, such as Simply Be or Marks & Spencer, as you’re far less likely to be fighting with material or find yourself feeling uncomfortable as soon as you move.
2. If in doubt, size up. This will give you a bit more room to play with, while the style of a wrap means you can easily pull in at the waist or add a few buttons to ensure you’re secure.
3. Don’t overlook the power of a great slip. If anything moves, you’ve always got your bits covered well!
