Standing beneath the steaming water and allowing it to run the entire length of my body, I feel more relaxed and free from worry than any other point during the day. There’s something about taking ten minutes out to wash away the sleep and treat yourself to a few minutes of pure pampering indulgence that’s incredibly powerful, and shouldn’t be overlooked. Sure I love a bath as much as the next person, but often weeks can go by without me getting a chance to run one let alone take an hour long soak – so my morning shower becomes even more of an opportunity to look after my body and mind.
Although shower gels, shampoos and face washes can provide functional benefit, making small changes or swaps can turn that average ten minutes into ten minutes that really leaves you feeling pampered. I’m all about those little upgrades, and these five products are those which leave me wanting to spend a few more minutes in my shower every day…
Dove Purifying Detox Green Clay Body Wash* £1.90
We’re big fans of Dove body wash in our house, and have been for a long time, but this new innovation could top them all. Enriched with (you guessed it!) green clay to cleanse away impurities, purify skin and wash away toxins caused by living in city environments, it’s super creamy and leaves skin feeling incredibly soft. What’s interesting is that it contains 0% sulfates, parabens and phthalates, and uses gentle cleansing technology that doesn’t your skin’s natural microbiome – an essential protective layer that can easily be imbalanced. From the first use I noticed a difference, so much so that this is now my morning go-to.
Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Smooth & Sleek Conditioner £3.99
My hair is really prone to becoming dull, brittle, frizzy and dry, so every few weeks it needs a power punch of great stuff to help restore it to its former glory – this ticks all my boxes. Surprisingly silicone-free, you just pop this onto lengths and ends of hair for a few minutes to get the benefit of a treatment without the wait time; it’s a great in-shower solution for those days when you don’t have the time for a full on pamper, but still want to get the results you crave. And it’s a bargain!
Kimberly Sayer Gentle Almond & Lavender Face Scrub* £22.80
Sometimes you just need a gentle scrub to really get into your pores and leave your skin super soft. This not only smells amazing (hello almond!) but it’s non-abrasive and features shea butter to leave skin feeling super plump and soft; essential oils and organic grains also help to deep cleanse, remove dead skin cells and prepare the skin for the rest of your routine. Unlike a lot of other scrubs that contain harsh buffing ingredients, this is a super soft and gentle alternative that I love using once a week – the texture, the scent, the ingredients and the result are all top notch.
Living Proof In-Shower Styler* £10.00
Although I’ve not quite found the perfect way to get the most out of this yet, I do love the concept: a post shampoo/conditioner treatment that enhances your natural style, especially when air dried. You apply a little over wet hair that’s been cleansed and conditioned as usual, lightly rinse and then let it do its thing; not only does it help to smooth frizz, reduce unwanted waves and add body, but it leaves hair feeling much more manageable too. I made the initial mistake of washing too much out, blow-drying and generally not really using it in the intended way, and the results weren’t that great (my hair just looked and felt a lot duller and wasn’t that easy to style,) but when used properly it can definitely help to speed up dry time and leave air-dried hair looking way better than I’m used to. One for working-from-home days for sure!
UpCircle Coffee & Cacao Body Scrub* £14.99
Forget everything you know about coffee scrubs, because this is something fresh. Made using recycled ground coffee from artisan coffee shops, this is a super compressed and rich formula that leaves skin feeling incredible; it also contains sea salt, cacao, coconut oil and shea butter to provide a super luxe and effective scrub that I’m a bit obsessed with. Unlike the ones I’ve tried in the past (which come in annoying coffee pouches) this feels like a product you’d happily showcase in your bathroom, gift to a friend or buy time and time again for yourself. I love the sound of the mint and lemon versions too. FYI: you only need a small amount to achieve polished skin, but it will still get into every corner of your shower – so beware!
Which of my five current shower faves would you be most excited to give a go?
