Honestly, I can’t believe I typed out those words. But it happened: we actually bought a goddam house!
For years I’ve wondered whether I’d ever actually be able to get on the property ladder, thanks to being born into one of the most expensive places in the country outside of London, but somehow we made it happen and I’m literally bursting at the seams with excitement.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind couple of months, because we only actually went to see our half-built now home for the first time seven weeks ago – and we were only allowed to step inside (for a whole hour!) three weeks ago. I don’t think Josh and I ever anticipated owning our own home and being handed the keys less than two months after even properly starting to have those conversations, but here we are, starting on this new journey together.
The reason it was so fast was because the new house we fell in love with was the last of its kind on the brand new estate being built about thirty minutes from where we’d met and been living for the past six years. We had a choice of either to go for the one almost complete, or wait nearly a year for the next batch to be built; I’m impatient, and I know a good opportunity to negotiate when I see one, so I actually spent practically every day during my holiday to Tenerife negotiating with developers and contacting mortgage brokers. (That’s why I came back almost as exhausted as when I left!)
We managed to get a great deal (money to boost our deposit, contribution towards fees, free upgraded kitchen and free flooring!) in order to speed ahead, but to be honest the house was perfect for us even without that. I got that fuzzy feeling inside the first time I saw it, and I know Josh felt the same. It all just fell into place perfectly, which is how you know it was meant to be.
Right now our house is a total blank canvas and it had the most dull magnolia decor throughout, so we’ve spent the last week pretty much painting it from top to bottom – before we started to add furniture and moving in our things over the weekend. Thanks to my super talented husband, who’s making the majority of our furniture, the furnishings will come gradually and add extra soul to our new home in the coming weeks and moths.
I’ll be documenting our progress via my new Instagram page @HayleyHallHome and via lots of home related content on here, so stay tuned for updates and inspiration!
I’m so excited about this new phase of our lives, and I’m so excited that I get to share it with you too.
