You may be surprised to find that I spent a lot of my childhood in a tent; we didn’t get to experience overseas trips or luxury holidays, but that didn’t mean we didn’t have the time of our lives much closer to home. Some of my earliest and best memories involve traveling down to the south coast to pitch up a tent, stay in a caravan or (the height of luxury) spend a week in a log cabin while enjoying the best-worst entertainment the holiday park could offer. There was something magical about sleeping outside amongst the stars and being woken up by the sound of birds, or the novelty of making the most of a teeny tiny space, so much so that my mum bought our own cheap caravan when I turned 16 and we spent every summer weekend enjoying the camping life.
I’ve such fond memories of sitting on a camping chair like it was a throne, stumbling around trying to find our plot after getting up to go to the loo in the middle of the night, attempting to curl my hair using a giant set of heated rollers plugged into the communal washroom, and of wrapping up warm in fifteen blankets as when the sun went down but finding myself in a blanket sauna when I woke up the next morning.
As I entered my twenties my family camping experiences were quickly replaced with festival ones, but the laughter never ceased. We may have been covered in mud, surviving on luke warm baked beans and cans of cheap cider, and using enough dry shampoo to last a lifetime, but we were free and we were incredibly happy. Those festival experiences were some of my best days during my 20’s, especially when we started to invest in bigger and better tents that didn’t get blown away with the first hint of wind or rain. Honestly, camping has such a warm place in my heart and I’m sure my relationship with it is far from over.
Camping may be a long-standing British tradition, but its also historically had a bit of a reputation for being at the lower end of the luxury scale; it’s something you’ve probably done out of necessity rather than choice over the years, but with the growth of luxury camping sites, festival glamping and unusual outdoor accommodation choices (I’m obsessed with those mini log pods!) there’s no denying that there’s a growing desire for something a little more special than your average two-man tent. People want to enjoy the outdoors and get back to nature, but without neglecting their comfort or ability to create an unforgettable experience… We want affordable European holidays without the faff, and that’s where Yelloh! Village comes in.
This innovative holiday destination group have completely rebranded the typical camping experience, so much so that they call their campsites across France, Spain and Portugal ‘open-air hotels’! Their values include guaranteed quality, professionalism, convenience and total peace of mind; each of the campsites is unique, but still features the same great amenities and flourishing green environments for you to enjoy whenever you visit – making Europe all the more attainable, whatever your budget. (If you’re after affordable European holidays, this will be right up your street!)
All the Yelloh! Village locations are incredibly environmentally aware too, offering numerous recycling facilities, prioritising clean and sustainable energy sources (including solar and electric) and even collecting waste water from the bathrooms for watering the gardens. Bicycles are lent free in many of the locations, while Yelloh! Village attaches special importance to blending as effortlessly into the landscape – leaving as little footprint as possible on its sites.
What’s even better is that the ‘open-air hotels’ have oodles of entertainment for guests of all ages – including water parks, off-site excursions, junior clubs, spa facilities (yes, really!) evening shows and so much more.
