Leopard may have been the queen of prints for the last decade, but this springtime animal print is expanding into new areas; whether you want to dabble in a bit of dalmatian, go all out with zebra or keep it understated with a sprinkling of giraffe, the high street has got you covered. A little bit of statement print worn in the right ways can instantly keep your overall look on-trend and effortless, but if you’re not quite sure how to wear animal print then a midi skirt is a great place to start: you can keep the rest of the look simple, clean and classic, letting the statement piece do all the talking. Let me demonstrate…
This zebra print skirt was an absolute bargain (£17.99) from New Look and is a piece I’m going to be wearing all the way until summer. The monochrome keeps it easy to integrate into your wardrobe too (as a black or white jumper keeps the look elegant and understated,) letting statement accessories using a flash of colour really work their magic; even though there’s a teeny bit of neon in the pattern, a pair of pale pink boots and a matching bag work really well while keeping it all kinds of comfy. I’ve added a beret, because apparently I kind wear anything without a beret at the moment.
If you want to switch it up and keep it casual in summer, a plain white tee / relaxed blouse / cami top / shirt with the sleeves rolled up a la Markle would look just as sassy – and you can finish up with either a relaxed pair of sandals or a stylish pair of heels to take you from office to bar with ease. The great thing about animal print is that it’s actually so easy to wear, if you just step out of your boundaries and try something new. In a lazy way, it’s also an easy way to look like you’ve made a real effort or know how to build an outfit, when in reality you’ve just shoved on some staples with a powerful skirt.
