Panda eyes are one of the downsides of spending ages creating the perfect smokey eye, or applying endless layers of your favourite mascara; we’ve all woken up thinking we’ve removed every last trace, only to be greeted in the mirror with black smudges that make us look like death warmed up. Even many of my favourite oil and balm cleansers fail to thoroughly remove makeup from around the lash line, leaving me with itchy eyes if I don’t make an extra effort to use a proper makeup remover before bed. Many of the makeup removers I’ve tried over the years are greasy, scratchy, involve a lot of manual labour or irritate my sensitive peepers – so it’s a hard task for me to find one I love. After reaching for the Sephora and Vichy bi-phase makeup removers for years, I was dubious to try something that claimed to be ‘iconic’ and ‘the best selling’ product from a relatively under-celebrated skincare brand… But honestly, it was love at first swipe as soon as I used Gatineau Floracil Gentle* and it may just be the best eye makeup remover I’ve ever tried.
This cornflower blue water miraculously removes all traces of mascara, liner and other makeup (even the waterproof kind) without upsetting the delicate eye area. The non-oily lotion contains the same pH as your tears (how cute is that?) so it’s suitable for even the most sensitive eyes, mine included. Enriched with soothing chamomile and cornflower to calm sensitivity, as well as algae extract to diminish dark shadows, Gatineau Floracil Gentle wipes away makeup in practically one swipe. There’s no rubbing required, no leftover residue and certainly no panda eyes the next morning – just a super quick, non-irritating and somewhat cooling cleansing experience.
What’s even better is the pump-action bottle that means you don’t even have to get your hands dirty; just pump a couple of squirts direct into a cotton pad and you’re away! Although this isn’t cheap, in my humble opinion it’s absolutely worth it – especially if you size up and go for the supersized bottle, which will last you an absolute age. I’ve been using it every single day before bed, even when I think my cleanser has removed all my mascara, to give me the confidence to slip between the sheets knowing I won’t awake with irritated or smudgy looking eyes.
An absolute star of a find. You’re welcome.
