During this transitional period it’s easy to feel dull, lethargic and generally like you want to hibernate all the way until March. It’s even easier to let your beauty regime fall by the wayside, or to keep reaching for the same old products you don’t really have to think about – but where’s the fun in that?! With so many new launches to enjoy, tonnes of fabulous scents to perk you up, and all kinds of fun textures and formats to inject some excitement into your dressing table, it would be a waste to keep plodding along until Spring. If you’re on the look out for a little payday treat, want to perk up your senses while you get accustomed to the cold, or just need something fun to put a smile on your face, these ten new beauty treats will undoubtedly brighten up your Autumn.
Patisserie de Ban Pineapple Paradise Hand Cream (£3.99)
I’m a big fan of the PDB hand creams; they’re not the most hard working, but they do give a hit of moisture when you need it most and deliver the most incredible scents. The newest addition to the line-up is this pineapple version, which smells effortlessly tropical without feeling artificial (which is mostly the case with fruity notes,) and I can’t get enough. It’s so good I want to keep applying it over and over – and at only £3.99 it’s the perfect pick-me-up!
Kocostar Sunflower Sheet Mask (£4.00)
Sheet masks are so common now they’re a bit yawn worthy, but this cute version from Kocostar changes the format up a bit by providing much smaller ‘mini’ sheets that can be applied to specific areas. Not only does it make it fun to Instagram and much easier to wear around the house, but it ensures the goodness is delivered exactly where you need it. This sunflower version contains hydrating, soothing and nourishing ingredients – so perfect for when this colder weather leaves skin feeling parched.
Lab 2 Charcoal Infused Make Up Brush Set (£18.99 for 4)
Such a great idea, these fluffy makeup tools are enriched with tiny anti-bacterial charcoal fragments to help remove impurities from the skin while keeping the brushes cleaner for longer. When using them they don’t feel (or smell!) any different, but the added ingredient will reduce the bacteria that’s so present when we’re dipping our tools from face to product and back again; you can also choose from Green Tea and Red Clay versions which offer the same anti-bacterial benefits. The brushes themselves are well made, easy to use and a great update for your makeup kit – plus super affordable, considering many brands charge this for a singular brush.
Bare Minerals Claymates Mask Duo: Brighten & Firm (£25.60)
One of my most enjoyable moments in the week is slapping on a face mask and slipping into a warm bath; taking those moments for yourself can be so valuable, especially when it’s so cold outside and you’re feeling a tad blue. Multi-masking has been increasingly popular in the last few years and this new launch takes that to a new level by offering both a brightening and firming treatment in one pot. Apply one at a time, one after another or mix and match on specific areas of the face – the choice is yours!
The purple Be Bright mask is enriched with Pomegranate Extract and Papaya Enzymes to provide gentle exfoliation and leave behind a radiant glow, while the green Be Firm mask is infused with Kale Seed and Watermelon Extract to provide deep hydration, help plump the skin and smooth the appearance of fine lines. The masks definitely left my complexion looking plumper and fresher, if not totally overhauled… But I’ll definitely keep reaching for this once a week until the temperatures start to soar again!
Lottie London Arch Rival Microblade (£6.95)
As a huge brow addict (and someone who frequently gets her brows microbladed) I’m always intrigued by anything new in the category. This felt pen is more than just another eyebrow filler, thanks to the super precise triple ‘blade’ nib that offers a fine pigment to skin in an instant; unlike many other pens which can be thick and look too artificial, the result of this is incredibly natural – so much that I use it on patches of skin without hair and it looks seamless. It takes a while to get the hand of applying it in the right way to ensure it provides a super natural finish, but this is something special… The fact that it’s so cheap only makes it even more irresistible.
No7 Lash Extender Mascara (£13.50)
One of the really underrated mascara brands, No7 have so many amazing variations of wands up their sleeves that you need to know about. This latest launch is enriched with volumising spheres that layer to build beyond the visible tip, providing luscious long lashes without any clumping or flaking; the patented brush is also made from paddle-shaped bristles carefully rounded at the ends to grip lashes, simultaneously defining and coating, leaving your flutter all kinds of beautiful. This did take me a good five or six uses to start getting the most from the brush and formula, but now it’s become my daily go-to.
Soap & Glory Bubble In Paradise Body Wash (£6.50)
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the original Soap & Glory scent; I think it reminds me too much of being a frivolous twenty-something, because I did overdo it a bit in years gone by! The new ‘Call Of Fruity’ range is everything I needed from this iconic brand, especially as we step into the colder months – it’s rather unexpected to launch a tropical scent in Autumn, but at least it helps to boost the senses on a dreary cold morning! Containing notes of mango and mandarin (some of my fave ever scents) this is a delight… And a total bargain considering how huge that bottle is!
Glossypops Lollipop Balm (£12.00)
One for the inner child, this super cute lollipop contains a little donut-scented lip balm beneath the glitzy exterior. It’s probably one of the most basic balms, but sometimes you just need a little treat or something fun in your bag to remind you it’s ok to be basic! A great payday treat, a fab stocking filler or simply a lovely way to show your girlfriends you care… These Glossypops are available in an array of designs and fragrances, so make sure you check them out!
Benefit Brow Contour Pro (£28.50)
A big launch that has generated so much buzz, this 4-way brow pen is reminiscent of those multi-coloured stationary faves we had as a kid. It includes two colour pens, a highlighter and a definer; the idea is that you snap whichever you want to use and create strong brows that are practically Instagram-perfect. The pencils themselves are incredibly soft and are a little hard to get to grips with, easily smudging if you’re not careful, so this one does take practice to get perfect – but if you can nail it your brows will never look better. I was surprised at the darkness of the colours too: I’m usually a deep brown gal but this version comes out almost black, so make sure you test the shades in store first. Expensive, but incredibly portable while offering the benefit of four tools in one.
Pixi Retinol Tonic (£10.00)
The original Pixi Glow Tonic is one of the most iconic and celebrated beauty potions in history – and something I recommend to the majority of people. It’s known to gently exfoliate the skin, tackle blackheads, reduce the appearance of pores and generally leave your complexion looking much brighter in only a few weeks; this new version includes time-release Retinol (one of my must-use anti-ageing ingredients) to reduce fine lines and smooth the complexion, peptides to boost collagen production, while jasmine flower soothes and heals.
Retinol is an incredible ingredient for anyone over the age of 30 (I wrote about why here) so I was super excited to discover a tonic alternative to the usual creams, oils and treatments. Although I’ve only been using it a short time, I’ve got high hopes for this and have no doubt it’s going to be a huge seller in the future. My top tips would be to use this after your night time cleanse (you shouldn’t use Retinols in the daytime as they make the skin super sensitive to UV rays) and to try to aim for 3-4 times a week – if skin feels sensitive drop down to only 1 or 2.
We all deserve a little pampering, a sweet pick-me-up or a beauty treat to make the cold weather more bearable.
Which of my top pics will you be treating yourself to this Autumn?
