Makeup palettes were once something reserved only for those questionable collections that popped up in the Argos catalogue at Christmas time; they were never decent products, they were always super cheap, and they were designed for young women just taking their first steps into the world of beauty. Now they’re the complete opposite, often showcasing the most premium of products and commanding the highest of price points – but you can still nab an array of amazingly wearable, creating and exciting palettes without having to spend a small fortune. Out of all the palettes, collections and new launches that have landed on my desk these past months, these are (in my opinion) some of the most covetable – and they won’t cost half your monthly salary either! If you’re after something to treat yourself to, or are simply thinking about stocking fillers for your girlfriends already, these are four palettes you need to know about…
Ciate ‘Glitter Storm’ Eyeshadow Palette (£36.00)
Although this price point isn’t everyone’s idea of affordable, when you break it down you get nine shades for a perfectly acceptable £4.00 each – all wrapped up in a beautiful palette you’d be proud to own (or add to your Christmas list this year.) I adore the hypnotic glittery lid that moves around like those water-filled phone cases that have become so popular, but it’s the eyeshadows inside that are beautiful. Super soft, well pigmented and absolutely wearable shades to take you from the office to party with ease, this collection is a worthwhile investment (without being super expensive like so many others at this time of year.) I would wear every single one of these shades throughout the Autumn-Winter-Christmas season and well into the New Year, and they’re just the right tones to warm up your look no matter your age. An absolute winner in my book!
Obsession ‘Belle Jordan’ Eyeshadow Palette (£10.00)
If you can’t quite justify £36.00 for an eyeshadow palette, then this is a brilliant alternative for a third of the price. With sixteen shades to choose from (although they’re definitely half the size of the Ciate palette,) there’s something for every need: nudes, bold tones, a hint of glitter, full on shimmer, plus a couple of unexpected shades. Obsession is the new sister brand of Makeup Revolution that’s exclusively available in Boots, so the quality and pay-off is comparable to that: smooth, easy to blend, and pigments that are strong (even if some are better than others.) I was super impressed with the quality and price point of this, even if I have no clue who Belle Jordan is! (A YouTuber apparently…)
Lottie Xthuyle ‘Living My Best Life’ Eyeshadow Palette (£8.95)
Another YouTuber collaboration (and another name I had to Google!) this palette really is something quite special to look at, and not for the faint-hearted. Including seven glittery shimmery shades and seven matte tones, it transcends the easily wearable right up to the full on royal blue glitter – so you can dabble in a little bit of ‘extra’ this festive season. Some of the shades provide a better pay off than others, but for nine quid this really is a chuffing good buy. I love that there’s a sprinkling of the ‘heat’ and ‘cherry’ tones that another eyeshadow brand (*cough Urban Decay cough*) has become known for recently, as well as some brighter and more unexpected ones. A great gift for yourself or a fellow makeup lover.
Soap & Glory ‘Just The Highlights’ Palette (£14.00)
If eyeshadow isn’t your thing, then this super cute highlighter palette could be right up your street. It contains a travel sized tube of primer, three highlighters and a flattering tone of cream blush to help you prep and perfect your winter glow with ease. What I really like about this is that the highlighting shades aren’t super strong or shimmery, so they provide a really subtle way of dabbling in the trend or building up your confidence before taking the full plunge. All three shades are super wearable and perfect for just adding a touch of radiance to skin, plus the creamy blush shade is what you need for a healthy glow. This is such a great little gift or stocking filler, and I’ve no doubt this will be incredibly popular thanks to the fact it’s already part of a 3 for 2 promo in Boots!
