Whether you live for the season or would rather close your curtains and pretend you’re not home, there’s no denying how much of a huge holiday Halloween has now become. Influenced by those folks across the pond, us Brits have started to replace bin bag costumes and apple bobbing for well-thought through looks and ornate decor – it’s now big business, with supermarkets offering all number of spooky treats and accessories to get you in the mood. Over the years I’ve dressed up as everything from a Dalek and decapitated Anne Boleyn, to Cruella DeVil and Happy Potter post-Voldemort-battle, but in the last couple I’ve preferred to keep it simple. But what do you do for Halloween if you don’t want to go all out? What do wear if you don’t want to dress up, but you still want to be part of the fun?
Well that’s where the perfect velvet wrap dress from Joanie comes in; super comfortable, super flattering and super versatile, it has enough of that spooky feeling to ensure you don’t look or feel out of place – whether you’re off to a full on party or just off out trick or treating. If you’re worried about your arms, flashing too much flesh during these cold nights or a round tummy then this helps to smooth, conceal and flatter without feeling frumpy; if you want to show a little bit of boob or leg then the option is there too! (I did have to tack the top of the dress together to prevent boob spillage, so if your chest is rather generous you may want to have a popper or pin handy.)
It’s available in a couple of other jewel tones too, so if the dark green isn’t your thing there are alternatives in the same shape – but I love the fact I could easily pop on a few accessories and apply some spooky makeup to feel in the party spirit in an instant. A witchy pair of flats and hair that looks like it’s been dragged through those woods backwards is all I need… (It’s also just the ticket as we step towards the festive season; velvet is always my favourite this time of year, so chuck on a pair of heels and some glittery accessories and I’ll be ready to hit the dancefloor!) Halloween is about embracing those darker colours, textures and tones, having fun with your hair and makeup – and most importantly, eating all the treat sized candy you can get your naughty mitts on!
Tell me what you’ll be wearing this Halloween!
