You know those occasions when you feel like you should dress up a little, but going full steam ahead with a new dress you picked up from ASOS is a bit too much? Yep, have them all the time. I’m well known for being a little overdressed and basically using any excuse to pop on a new outfit or take a pair of inappropriate but-oh-so-pretty shoes for a run (that’s what working from home most of the week in a jean-jumper combo will do for you,) but sometimes you just know you’ll look like you’re dressed up for the races when everyone else is more suited to the local Weatherspoons. It’s a dilemma. Well, let me introduce you to the answer to most outfit conundrums: the dressy ‘goes with jeans’ blouse.
Until recently the thought of wearing a blouse reminded me equally of school uniforms and my Nan (neither is a good look tbh,) but right now there are so many beaut smart tops out there waiting to be snapped up that it makes it hard to resist the wardrobe staple. But blouses don’t have to be boring you know – they can be as colourful, on-trend or voluminous as you like. Just like this little number from ChiChi London, which effortlessly perks up my blue jeans and provides the perfect solution for when you want to look like you’re making a bit of an effort without doing it. The crisp material and structure of the design keep it effortlessly cool while still being comfy, working beautifully with a simple pair of flats and great accessories.
Talking of great accessories, I’m currently obsessed with this imitation Chanel bag in rose gold that I picked up from Shein
on a bit of a whim. Although their clothes are totally hit and miss
(they have some great designs, but the sizing is all over the shop – I
bought eight different pieces and sent them all back!) their accessories
are absolutely top notch, especially for the price. This was only
twenty quid and looks pretty much the same as a Chanel Boy Bag at first
glance, which is why quite a few of my friends thought I got a bit
spendy recently. Spoiler, I didn’t; I just found a great copy in a
beautiful rose gold shade that’s roomy enough for all my essentials
without weighing me down.
I added a little flash of colour with these fab Primark tassel earrings (£3.00!) which come in so many shades it’s like Joseph’s Technicolour Dreamcoat in store right now, which are a great way to keep the look fresh and current. If you’re tempted to try tassel earrings but don’t know where to start, then these are a great intro – the price and number of colours isn’t at all prohibative, allowing you to take them for a test drive without worrying about spending a small fortune on an accessory that will barely see the light of day. They’re also super light to wear, so you won’t be concious of them either.
Oh and I can’t go without talking about this incredible cafe in St Albans… Not only the best backdrop for some cheeky photos, but their nutella donut was so tasty I tried to savour every mouthful.
The Pudding Stop is well worth, erm, a stop.
