Your fragrance says a lot about you. Whether you want to be perceived as youthful fun and flirty, ooze elegance and sophistication, let those around you pick up on your inner minx, or simply want to channel your thirst for fashion and uniqueness, a delicately spritzed scent can help. Although many of us have ‘signatures’ or perfumes we turn to time and time again, many more of us love to change up our scent every season and continually inject a touch of something new into their repertoire. Jo Malone London are one of the few brands that can do no wrong and please my nose with every new scent – especially their seasonal limited edition fragrances which are well thought through and often provide a completely new interpretation that you won’t have seen anywhere else before.
This springtime their latest collection is sure to fill everyone that
sniffs it with glee, as it encapsulates everything that’s beautiful
about the British countryside; each of the five scents combines a grain
with a wildflower, producing a truly smile-inducing concoction that is
as beautiful alone as it is combined with others.
Primrose & Rye Cologne
The JML description: “Rolling fields
dotted with primroses. Swaying softly on a spring breeze. Warmed by
golden corn. Brightened with mimosa. On an addictive base of rye and
vanilla. Filled with sunshine. Vivid. Glowing. Addictive.” Like warming
sunshine on the skin, this refreshing scent contains brightening notes
that would work well either in springtime or autumn. Primrose can be a bit naff, but this is a modern and welcome interpretation I really enjoyed.
Honey & Crocus Cologne
JML description: “Mouth-watering honey, fresh from the beehive. Blended
with the bright bloom of crocuses and English lavender. Sweetened with a
dash of almond milk. Rich. Comforting. Scrumptious.” This is sweet
without being sickly, combining the uplifting qualities of a honey base
with the floral notes of crocus; considering I usually stay clear of
both sweet and floral scents, this is a combination I’d happily spritz
on my wrist.
Poppy & Barley Cologne
description: “Rich red poppies dancing in the wind. Violet flowers,
alive with colour. Fruity with blackcurrant. Cocooned by barley and
bran. Softened with powdery notes of white musk. Lively. Cheerful.
Inviting.” A richly earthy scent with fabulous subtle notes of autumnal
berries, it’s hard to pinpoint why this is so enticing but it really is. I never thought I’d enjoy the scent of Barley, but it provides a really different twist to an otherwise classic note.
Oat & Cornflower Cologne
description: “Wholesome oats gathered from the field, fit for a hearty
feast. Warm and delicious. Enlivened by vivid blue cornflowers and a
hint of hazelnut. Complemented by an elegant vetiver base.
Mouth-watering. Warm. Sensual.” Undoubtedly my fave, this is refreshing and warming without being overwhelming. I love the nutty undertone and the cornflower elements – another note I didn’t know I’d appreciate so much – which makes this a fragrance I know I’ll love for the seasons to come.
Green Wheat & Meadowsweet Cologne
JML description: “An English field at dawn, full of the joys of spring.
Filled with young, green wheat. Crisp and fresh. Balanced with a zesty
twist of grapefruit. Mingled with soft, white notes of meadowsweet.
Pretty. Fresh. Powdery.” A really bright and citrusy scent, this is
really quite beautiful and would work amazingly well combined with
something just as fresh. Although the description makes it sound quite feminine, it could really lighten an otherwise heavy fragrance or add a certain something to a more masculine base.
I’d happily wear all five of these
scents and struggled to rank them in order of my faves, although I
definitely enjoyed Oat & Cornflower the most. A couple of them could
definitely be spritzed by men or women, while all could be beautifully
combined with existing scents or together to create something even more
unique. The bottles are utterly divine and a welcome alternative to the transparent glass bottles we all know and love so well; they would all look beautiful on a dresser and I can see them turning up in blogger flatlays for years to come. (Don’t they just look like you want to collect them all?)
Another collection from JML that I adore – and I’m sure you will too.
