I love telly. There’s something so magical about a story being told through moving images, transporting you to another reality and capturing your attention so completely. I’ve been lucky enough to have visited sets, been part of a studio audience and crept behind the scenes many times and it never fails to excite me (even if the reality is always very different from what you expect.) Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be invited on set once again, going behind the scenes for the filming of an episode of Britain’s Next Top Model which also appeals to my inner beauty obsessive; one of the top shows in the UK, the twelfth season involves thirteen girls battling it out via weekly challenges and tasks to win the crown and title – which opens so many metaphorical doors and opportunities for the last girl standing.
This week’s challenge has been set by the iconic lip brand Carmex, who
are working with BNTM to generate new imagery for their ‘Carmex in the
City’ campaign – a fun, quirky, retro celebration of all things
kissable. Because Carmex allows their customers to reach new heights and
enjoy life, knowing their lips look and feel fab! The girls were
challenged to create images that captured the essence of the brand,
using the props provided (including a comic-strip backdrop, a retro
moped and a hot guy which they were asked to kiss!) in a matter of
minutes. Watching them walk into the room not knowing what to expect,
and being asked to creatively pose with a guy they’ve never met, was
fascinating; sheer passion and a huge amount of confidence really does
set them apart from us mere mortals!
With camera crews lurking around every corner, endless makeup artists
and hair stylists on hand to beautify them, and a stylist to help create
some super sassy outfits, the day was a fascinating insight into the
show – whether you’re usually a fan or not. The snippets that I saw were
amazing and I’ve no doubt the images will be something special, as you
can see from my sneaky preview shots I captured by hiding just off
camera. The final images will be used across the Carmex social media
channels, but you can tune in tonight (23d November) to see the whole
process, finished pics and the winning girl. Believe me, it’s set to be a steamy episode!
Carmex is a brand I’ve used for such a long time and is really reminiscent of my youth, but it still delivers comfort and care that I can totally rely on. Their constant innovations and new flavours capture my attention even decades after my first discovery (hello limited edition Sugar Plum and new Mint & Pineapple flavours!) while the iconic yellow and red pack will never go out of style. It’s great to see them being involved in such a popular show and being given a new lease of life via these bold and youthful stylized shots, and even better to see the products being used on set to prep and prime the girls’ lips (as well as adding a subtle sheen over the top of their red lipstick too.)
The subtle tingle is really quite addictive, invigorating the senses and giving lips a little pick-me-up, so it’s no surprise that it’s gone from strength to strength and is the number one selling cult lip balm in the US. Beeswax helps to soothe dry lips, while camphor and methol provide the scent and sensation we know and love; it’s been one of the best kept beauty secrets of makeup artists and models for decades, but the cat is now definitely out of the bag thanks to this week’s BNTM episode!
