While in New York over the summer, I was mindlessly gazing out of a cab window while stuck in traffic only to realise we were right in front of somewhere very special. The iconic Elizabeth Arden red door was relatively inconspicuous amongst the Manhattan hustle and bustle, but I knew behind those statement panels was a world of pampering that I just wanted to taste; I’d never been so excited to spot a door frame (and probably never will again.) Until now the only way you could experience Elizabeth Arden professional treatments was if you jumped on a plane to JFK, but as of this week that’s all about to change. For the first time in a decade (since their Mayfair spa closed) the famous Red Door Spa is opening its doors in the heart of the capital; the new flagship counter in Debenhams Oxford Street will offer speed services (which include Oxygen Blast facials and pampering hand massages,) as well as a luxury treatment room which will exclusively provide the professional facial services found only in The Red Door Spas across America.
Boasting treatments that include microdermabrasion, hot stones,
enzyme exfoliation and LED facials, the mini spa also uses Elizabeth
Arden professional skincare which cannot be found or bought anywhere
else. If you’re a fan of the brand, have always wanted to step through
that iconic red door, or simply love a bit of pampering, then this hot
new destination is definitely one you’ll want to check out. Having been
designed specifically to meet the needs of women who are short on time,
but still want to benefit from a pick-me-up, there’s a portfolio of
‘speed services’ to choose from which are perfect to slip into a lunch
break or shopping trip. (These will also be rolling out nationwide, so
if you can’t get to London you can still enjoy a little Arden
If you have a bit more time then you may want to experience
some of the targeted and truly effective facial treatments they have on
offer – including the Ultimate Facial that I was fortunate enough to
experience last week. Designed to offer a pampering
and relaxing experience that’s combined with an effective deep cleanse
and extraction, it’s a joyous way to spend 75 minutes. I never relax enough during facials to ever fall asleep, but I felt myself drifting off as the red light therapy got to work and emerged from the room feeling as if I’d only been there ten minutes.
The mini spa is located at the back of the stand on the shop floor, but once you’re inside you’re instantly transported somewhere else entirely. Considering you’re amongst the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest stores in London, you can easily drift off and only hear a murmur of noise if you really concentrate. I adore the little reception room which feels very NYC: from the cosy red chair and bespoke artwork on the walls, to the statement floor tiles and piles of high fashion magazines to flick through while you wait. Who knew a space in Debenhams could be as luxuriously pampering as a spa half way across the world?
Rather excitingly, until 6th November you can book in
for a 45 minute treatment to experience the Red Door facial for
yourself, absolutely free. (There’s a £15 booking fee which is
redeemable against purchase, but that’s easily done!) With 1000 sessions
available, it’s definitely worth taking Elizabeth Arden up on this
offer and becoming a regular customer once you see the benefit their
treatments can bring. My skin was left almost flawless, super smooth,
radiant and free from dark circles – so much so I spent the rest of the
day in meetings without makeup for the first time in forever! I’ll be
back. Probably the same time next week.
