Two Brands, Two Budgets: Clarins After Sun Shimmer Oil Vs Solait Perfecting Shimmer Oil

As we step into summer and reveal our limbs after a long period of hibernation, a touch of exfoliation and a little self tan isn’t the only way to achieve gloriously glowing skin. Whether you’re lucky enough to have sunkissed skin, have invested in a safer and ‘faker’ alternative, or simply want to enhance your natural tone while looking after limbs, a touch of shimmering body oil could be just what you need. Not only do these two bottles offer up a delicate golden glow and subtle shimmer, but they both contain nourishing oils to ensure your legs are well looked after this summer season. Whether you want to opt for the extravagant and elegant Clarins After Sun Shimmering Oil, or choose the budget Solait Perfecting Shimmer Oil instead, these both provide a great holiday glow without the need to venture anywhere near a beach.

The Clarins After Sun Shimmer Oil (£32.00) will nourish, illuminate and enhance a tan after a long day on the beach, but equally works well to add elongation to legs on a Saturday night out in Birmingham; just apply a touch down the centre of legs to catch the light and provide a ‘girl band appropriate’ look. Thanks to the non-oily texture and flecks of golden shimmer, the formula helps to enhance the appearance of skin without sticking to clothes; a small amount massaged into skin will leave a practically invisible finish that won’t stick to the sand. Hazelnut oil soothes, nourishes, softens the skin and defends against dehydration, while Vitamin E protects skin from external aggressors. The essential oils of mandarin, grapefruit, ylang ylang and tonka beans provide the ultimate scent of summer, ensuring that applying this is a treat to be treasured.

If you can’t justify taking such a luxurious product away with you to Marbs this summer, then Superdrug have their own offering to ensure a practically identical result. Their Solait Perfecting Shimmer Oil (£7.99) is enriched with moisturising Argan, Almond and Rosehip Oil and shimmering particles to provide a very subtle glow on the skin. The tone is much lighter than the Clarins, but when applied to the skin it really doesn’t make much difference; although slightly oilier, it still absorbs effortlessly into skin to leave a nourished and radiant finish. The plastic bottle means this is a much more sensible option for taking away on holiday, while the price point is much more purse friendly – you could grab four of these for the price of one Clarins body oil! Either way, massaging a touch of these non-greasy products onto skin is the perfect way to crack on with summer.

Would you give a shimmering body oil a go this summer?

These sound lovely! I was testing the Clarins one in House of Fraser the other day and although it sounds amazing, I wasn't convinced when I put it on my hands! Maybe I'll start with the cheaper alternative just to see how I get on with that kind of product! Thanks for the recommendation! Jasmine |

I'm all for saving a buck by choosing a good dupe over the original! 🙂

I had absolutely no idea that Solait made a dupe of this product! Sounds like a must buy for my holiday! Especially when you consider the packaging, I'm gone for three weeks so I cannot afford any breakages!Stephanie xxx

dying to try this now! I usually use a shimmer stick to highlight when I have tan on. An oil would defs be more natural and moisturising! Thanks !!Rachael O x
