Summer Handbag Heroes: Three Tinted Lipbalms For Colour & Hydration In One

Although I’m a massive fan of lipstick, when it gets a little warmer I definitely find myself reaching for the gloss and tinted lipbalm a little bit more. I still desire a flush of colour, but the often heavy textures and colours of lipsticks mean they don’t quite capture the style I embrace during the sunnier months. Tinted lipbalms are a saving grace, as they offer a hit of colour with no faffing – there’s no need to precisely re-touch or worry about flaking, as a slick of rich balm will hydrate your lips and colour them with something delicious in no time at all. Although I have loads within my collection, these three new additions are definitely going to be firm favourites over the next few months and are well worth a look.

1. Elizabeth Arden: Eight Hour Cream Sheer Tint (£20.00)
The wonderous Eight Hour Cream is a firm favourite of mine anyway, but this delicately tinted lipbalm is just to die for. The rich and soothing formula contains just the hint of red, to enhance the colour of lips rather than create an overtly strong ‘lipstick’ effect – the bullet is way darker than the effect on the lips, which is rather transparent. I love how elegant this looks and how it works to soothe even the driest of lips, without compromising on colour.  Available in four shades (the one featured is Berry,) these are pricey but totally worth it; it even features SPF15 to look after your lips while in the sun. I’ve been using it non-stop for a couple of weeks and it still looks as good as new.

2. L’Occitane: Pivoine Sublime Tinted Lipbalm (£12.00)
Part of their new ’20 something’ skincare range, these luxury lip balms are available in three tones – from transparent, to tinted to the more intense Rose Plum (pictured.) They contain SPF25 and nourishing ingredients to leave lips feeling kissable, as well as a colour that gives the illusion of a lipstick without the drying texture. This balm offers a serious amount of colour, meaning you do have to take care when applying; it’s a shame they’ve not pointed the tip of the bullet to make application easier, as it’s a bit tricky with a flat surface. However, at £12.00 they’re a more affordable alternative if you just want something to keep your lips looking fab all summer long.

3. Pur Minerals: Pout Pen (£14.00)
A slightly different approach to a tinted balm, this double-ended pen features a stain on one end and a hydrating tinted balm on the other. The idea is that you stain your lips using the felt tip and top it up with a touch of tinted balm throughout the day to keep the colour looking fab. Unfortunately the stain feels like it zaps moisture as it dries, meaning it’s a no-no if you’re already suffering with a little lack of moisure, but for taking you from office to bar (or beach to bar!) then it’s a great option. A design flaw means the balm isn’t covered or protected, so I did snap mine off within a couple of uses and have to melt it back into place – so just be careful to look after it! It’s a great idea, so lets just hope the Pout Pen 2.0 is a little better in design…

(I did try taking photos of these on my lips for comparative purposes, but the result is so close it didn’t offer any more than just a swatch alone…!) Are you a fan of tinted balms and hydrating handbag essentials? Have you tried any of these three products?

That pout pen looks awesome. It's a Little out of my Price range though. I don't like to spend too much on tinted lip balms, I'd rather splurge on a pigmented lipstick, but that's just me. That pout pen is tempting me though.Loevens makeup rambles

I always love a nice tinted lip balm. I'm a huge fan of both the Fresh Sugar line, and the Clinique Chubby Sticks. Incredibly hydrating, and also a great pop of colour. -Katherine
