Barry M Launch Their Own Take On Gel Nails: Sunset Daylight Curing Polish

Although gel nails have been one of the biggest trends to hit the nail market for the best part of a decade, they come with a huge number of problems that often leave talons looking and feeling somewhat worse for wear. (Read here why I’ve given up gel nails for good.) I’m all for the look and longevity of a gel nail, but the practicality means they’re just not feasible for a lot of us – which is why this latest launch from Barry M is so welcome. Their new Sunset Daylight Curing polish and topcoat deliver ‘the
look and resilience of pro salon gel nails’ without a UV lamp or the
expense of visiting the salon. Available in seven seasonal shades and a transparent topcoat, the formula doesn’t even require a basecoat as the special formulation bonds to the nail like a
gel in daylight but can still be removed with a regular remover.

The polish itself applies like a normal Barry M formulation, providing a great colour result after only two coats. It dries pretty quickly, leaving nails ready for a coat of the specially formulated Sunset Topcoat to start the curing process. Essentially this topcoat sets the nails with natural daylight, helping to create a more resilient finish that gives the look of a traditional gel nail without the faffing or potential damage. I’m really impressed with how the polish looks on my nails, and how glossy the finish is; although the polish does still chip after a couple of days, it lasts a lot longer than some of my other regular polishes and continues to provide a glossy finish. Often it’s the shine on nails that makes them look like you’ve just stepped out of the salon, and this clever topcoat ensures they’re shinier for longer.

With seven colours available, from traditional red and navy right through to summer appropriate coral and teal, there’s a polish to take you through every month of the year. I hope they extend the line to include more seasonal colours and on-trend shades, but this is a great start for a brand I’m falling more in love with every new launch. These won’t provide the longevity or performance of a gel manicure, but they’re a great compromise and fabulous for ensuring nails look fabulous for longer than a day – the usual length of my polish before it chips beyond repair. At £4.99 each, you can’t argue with the price point either; plenty of change leftover for a pina colada.

The Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paint and Topcoat are available online and via Superdrug/Boots stores nationwide, priced £4.99 each.

As someone that can't keep their nail varnish chip free for more than a couple of hours, I'm really interested to try these! I'm a bit fickle with nail colours anyway so never bothered about having it on for more than a few days at a time, but these might be a nice medium! xShe Moves On

My nails are suuuuuuuuuper prone to chipping so I've been trying out different gel lacquers trying to figure out which one works best for me. Haven't trie Barry M yet though.

I bought these the day they came out and got to say I was really disappointed. I'm a fan of Barry M nail varnish but this chipped the day after putting it on. Their standard top coat is much better.

Not a fan 🙁 I bought the teal and the navy and they both chipped after one day, and the direction not to use a basecoat left my fingers blue. Gutted.
