The Best High Street Foundation I’ve Tried (Plus It’s A NARS Dupe?) L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte

When it comes to foundation, I’m a bit of a snob. I rarely find anything on the high street that can perform as well as I need it to, offering decent coverage and longevity without feeling incredibly heavy on my skin. There’s something to be said for spending a little more on a base that will work with you, rather than against you, and those formulas are more often than not found in a department store beauty hall. However, the latest launch from L’Oreal (Infallible 24hr Matte) has had me eating my words – as it’s just as good as, if not better than, the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation I’ve raved about previously. Offering a lightweight and non-cakey texture, a 24 hour finish (although show me a woman who genuinely wears her foundation for 24 hours,) and waterproof qualities, this is one foundation to be reckoned with.

The slightly underwhelming tube conceals something that’s pretty powerful, gliding over my skin effortlessly to cover dark circles and conceal imperfections. It doesn’t feel heavy and a little goes a long way – the texture is very close to the NARS long-lasting formula, providing a very similar result on the skin and equal longevity. I can apply this first thing in the morning and my makeup still looks practically perfect when I remove it before bed; that’s a hardworking foundation! It doesn’t cake, I get hardly any movement or oil in my t-zone and I don’t feel like I need to top-up with powder come the afternoon. There’s nothing magical about what’s inside it and it won’t do anything for your skin underneath, but if you’re after a new foundation to help you look flawless without caking your face in an uncomfortable mask then L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte could be a worthwhile purchase. At £6.99, compared to £33.00 for the NARS alternative, you can’t go wrong.
Are you excited to try the latest foundation launch from L’Oreal?

The L’Oreal Infalible 24hr Matte foundation is available in six shades via Boots priced £6.99.

I really want to try this! Heard so many good things. I wasn't a fan of the new Nars though, prefer sheer glow to be honest. Will definitely have to buy this as its so cheap 🙂 Bex x

On the strength of this I went and got some at lunchtime £7.99 in Boots (but 3 for 2 on make-up so was practically free). Hope the matte finish is OK on my (maturing) skin, will report back!

Oh wow I think you may have just sold this to me! I'm currently planning what I'm going to buy in Boots latest 3 for 2 and I think this might just be getting one of those places alongside probably the new Maybelline foundation and a Bourjois Aqua Laque. It sounds amazing and I might even be able to test out those 24 hours claims (22 hours is the most I've managed so far) if I get another 16 hour shoot down in London x Becky @ The Little Blog of Beauty

I wasn't aware the formula was similar to the Nars one so thanks for the tip off! Unfortunately the shade selection meant I've ended up with a colour that looks really 'off' on me 🙁 maybe they'll extend it because there are at least double the amount of shades in the US line xx Magpie Jasmine

The problem in the UK is self-selection cosmetics have such limited shelf space, so brands can only hold 6 shades on most occasions – unless you can also buy online. It's a real shame.

What a fabulous review! Nars is a little out of my price range, but this L'Oreal dupe sounds right up my street. I'm definitely going to pick this beauty up, next time I'm in Boots!Lauren

I think this is one I'd have to see in person to decide because I clicked on the link in your website and I couldn't really tell if they had a good selection of colors for brown skinned girls. I want to love it and I'm always looking for good foundations though.

UPDATE – wearing it today! So far so good, hasn't settled into my lines and despite being matte doesn't look 'ageing' (PHEW). Let's see if it lasts all night…

That's exactly what I have been looking for. I am using the Bare Minerals Bare Skin foundation for its good to the skin properties but it goes within 2 hours! Especially if you have combination skin, by lunch time there is nothing less on your nose! So I'll give this a go!

This replaced their old Infallible which for anyone with facial scars (injury or non-pitted acne) was the worst news ever. That L'Oreal foundation was my savior as it was seriously full coverage but didn't look like spakfiller, i.e MAC. And it was SO well priced. No expensive foundation ever worked as well. :((The two that replaced it don't come close for coverage but that said the matte is better than the satin (which slides straight off). Their colour range has altered also – the lightest is now a little too orangey for snow queens. If you're needing extra help on coverage then Amazing Concealer will do the trick. I've always found makeup companies forget there's women out there who simply cannot wear the nude look and like camouflage without looking like we've fallen out of an episode of TOWIE!Ok, rantyrant over. RIP original Infallible!

Thats good-I do find many foundations Ive tried just dont last (although Estee Lauder double wear definitely does – actually its a pig to get off!) Always nice to hear about cheaper alternatives. Not sure if I will be buying it as I'm not that in to the matte look -prefer it more natural/satin. Ive seen you tubers use mac strobe cream underneath foundations which looks quite appealing

Is it odd that I am scared to try this foundation? Just because it says mattifying and I feel like those type of foundations tend to make my skin look a bit dull. Even though I have no idea what skin type I have anymore (simply because in the winter it's dry, and now it's acting oily which is very rare) and I'm afraid of it clinging to any possible dry patches. The main worry I have it collecting and pooling in my pores like my L'Oreal True Match, which everyone swears by and I hate it, so I don't know if I should just try it or not. Agh!Xo,Emily | EMBUR.

I was wondering if they were similar, because they sound almost the same. I love the l'Oréal foundation so much and I'm thinking about buying the Nars one when I'm in London in a few months… One question though… The Nars foundation, does it have a matte finish as well? I believe not, from what I've read, nobody really mentions it. 🙂 If it is, maybe I shouldn't buy it because I'm very happy with my l'Oréal one, but if it it's not, it's worth buying I guess :)I'm so glad you did this post! 😉 xLove, Charline | Charline Has a Blog
