When you’re surrounded by tissues, your head is banging like the base of a hardcore beat and your chest is full of gunky green stuff, it’s easy to slip underneath the duvet and wish away the day. Although a boxset of Gossip Girl and a box of biscuits may seem like the only way to make you feel better, there are lots of fab products and tricks you can use to ensure an easy route to recovery. Here are five of my must-have products to help you out of your sickbed and back into the busy streets of the city with a spring in your step.
Aromatherapy Associates Support Oil (£15.00)
While I was wrapped up in a onesie with no hope of even answering the door to the postman, a sniffle of this pure lavender essence really helped to calm and clear my mind. The 100% pure essential oil is both an antiseptic and provides anti-bacterial properties, making it perfect for when you’re feeling a little low – it can be applied directly to the skin, massaged onto temples or even dropped into a tissue or onto a pillow so the benefits can be breathed in.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (£26.00)
An essential all year round, but especially when your nose is all dry and chapped from being blown 1000 times a day. No matter the fancy tissue that claims to be infused with miracle balm, when you’re repeatedly rubbing and blowing your nose it’s bound to become dry and chapped – the skin can start to flake and become incredibly sore, making a dire situation even worse. A little Eight Hour Cream massaged around the nose (as well as onto dry lips) can help to soothe dry skin, aid repair and even protect it from further damage. I like to slather it on and let it soak in, as well as dabbing a little onto my nose before blowing it for the 97th time.
Origins Make a Difference Overnight Hydrating Repair Cream (£34.50)
My new favourite overnight treatment, this little pot of ultra-rich overnight cream is fortified with Rose of Jericho, Lychee, Watermelon and Rhodocrosite. It helps create a reservoir to help replenish moisture lost after dark, as well as helping to lock in surface moisture and support skin’s natural nighttime self-repair ability. You only need a small amount massaged into skin while you’re in bed, leaving it to get to work and inject some much needed goodness when your complexion is sallow and grey – it doesn’t even sting or feel uncomfortable on sore noses!
Manuka Doctor Active 12+ Manuka Honey (£14.99)
Manuka honey is well known for its antibacterial qualities, helping the body to fight infection and soothe irritation in one swoop. A teaspoon mixed with hot water and a slice of lemon is a godsend during colds and coughs, helping to not only clear the nose and soothe dry throats, but re-balancing your digestive system and ensure it’s working properly. I’m a massive fan of lemon water anyway, but a touch of honey is the perfect addition for when you’re a little under the weather… As well as being a fab alternative to tonnes of Lemsip that’s easier to overdose on than you realise!
