Five Affordable Makeup Brush Brands You Need To Check Out

I don’t know what I used to do without makeup brushes, but suffice to say my fingers alone didn’t exactly make the best tools. Fast forward a few years and my brush collection is expansive, full to the brim with different bristles and varying angles to ensure makeup is applied just right. You can invest heavily in application tools if you want to feel like a makeup artist, but you can quite easily achieve a pretty professional finish with some of the more affordable options on the high street. Although I love a few really expensive brushes, these five brands are the ones I turn to on a daily basis to help my products apply with ease. All five are easily available and all five have a huge brush selection for under a tenner.

1. The Body Shop (From £9.00)
I would never have thought of visiting The Body Shop for makeup tools, but they have a great capsule collection that features some fabulous brushes that really help makeup to glide on. Most of the eye and blending brushes are £9.00, with the foundation and face brushes increasing to £12.00, making them really affordable for what you get. I love the sturdy tapered handle and the super soft synthetic bristles – these look and feel like great quality.

2. Barry M (From £2.99)
If you’re new to makeup brushes, or simply want to stock up on spares, then Barry M’s capsule collection is a great place to start. They’re super cheap, lightweight and durable – I’ve had this angled blush brush in my collection for five months and it’s been used daily, but it’s practically as good as new. Although their face brushes aren’t best for a flawless finish, their powder and eyeshadow brush are great little budget finds that you’ll definitely find pleasure in using.

3. EcoTools (From £4.99)
Each one of their brushes features soft, cruelty-free synthetic taklon bristles, a recycled aluminum ferrule and a sleek bamboo handle. These aren’t intended only for those interested in using ethical products, but for anyone wanting a serious collection of tools that performs. I rely on EcoTools for most of my needs, using everything from foundation and powder brushes to angled liners and buffing brushes; they’re fab quality and really last.

4. Real Techniques (From £5.99)
From the famous Sam Chapman herself, Real Techniques offer the next best thing to a professional brush. Every brush contains super soft but hardwearing bristles that really help you to pick up product and buff it into the skin; their eyeshadow brushes are incomparable, while their more targeted blending brushes really help to provide a flawless finish. I love that you can buy introductory kits with everything you need, giving even more of a helping hand to makeup novices.

5. So Eco (From £3.99)
A relatively new brand on the block, So Eco places emphasis on their components being responsibly and ethically sourced. They’re remarkably similar to EcoTools, but the brushes are lighter to allow you to really see where the product is – great if you’re a little scared of overloading! The bristles are soft, precise and help to delicately buff product into the skin. These are fab for all your face needs, especially the giant bronzing brush which makes quite the statement.

Have you tried any of these brands before? Do you have any other affordable tool brands within your repertoire that are worth checking out?

I love EcoTools! Their brushes are amazing quality and they last for ages – I've had my powder brush for about 4 years and it's still going strong after daily use and many shampoos.Madame Raptor x

Love The Body Shop foundation brush! I've had it about 2 years and washed it many times between them and it's still in great condition, plus I find it's a bit bigger than regular foundation brushes so makes application even quicker!Mary @
