My makeup collection is probably the same size as my local Boots store, containing just as much variety and opportunity to experiment. Although I try to use as many things as possible and regularly shake up my routine, there are a few things I find myself reaching for time and time again on a daily basis. They’re my fail-safe reliable products that I know I don’t have to think about or really take time to perfect; products that are easy to apply, provide the result I want and leave me feeling great. Here are a few of my current makeup favourites and while you’ll be seeing them on my face for some time to come.
1. Sleek Blush Trio In ‘Lace’ (£9.99)
I’ve written about this fab blush trio before, but a few months on and it’s still the product I’m wearing practically daily. I love the three individual colours, especially the middle shade which also has a touch of gold for highlighting, but often wear them together for a more exciting finish. The shades are really pigmented and work incredibly well with my natural skintone, blending into my foundation with ease. They don’t flake or come away from the pan too much either, minimising waste and wastage – something I find a lot of other blushes do.
2. Lanolips 101 Ointment (£11.22)
This is a great lip balm that’s made from 100% natural lanolin, helping to soothe irritated lips and add a natural shine. I love it not only as an overnight treatment applied just before bed, but first thing in the morning underneath my colour of choice for that day. It’s also a fab handbag product that helps to soothe dryness throughout the day, or simply add a hit of hydration over your lipstick. You need such a small amount too, ensuring this is somewhat of an investment for the year!
3. Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Foundation (£28.00)
This lightweight foundation provides me just the right amount of coverage without feeling heavy on my skin. It’s great for days when you want to look your best, as well as evenings when you want a bit more than a lightweight BB Cream. It helps to minimise the appearance of pores and imperfections whilst adding a touch of radiance, ensuring you look like you but just better. Available in 20 different shades, there’s a perfect match for your skintone too.
4. Clarins BB Cream (£30.00)
Although this is pretty pricey for a BB Cream, it’s definitely been a firm favourite over the summer. It helps to blur away imperfections in skin tone, whilst adding a touch of natural radiance that helps your inner health glow through. For a BB Cream it’s more covering than most, but that acts in its favour as it provides the confidence I need to face the day. It’s long-lasting, non-greasy and basically awesomeness in a tube.
5. Pixi By Petra Quick Fix Powder (£18.00)
This handy little tub of powder is great for dabbing onto your t-zone in the morning, helping your makeup to be fixed in place and preventing that t-zone slip we all suffer from come 4pm. If you’re not a fan of the all-over powdery matte look, then this offers a targeted compromise – the powder is dispensed through the puff which you dab directly onto the skin. The powder is completely transparent too, ensuring it won’t have an imapct on the beautiful canvas you’ve created beneath.
6. Pixi Fairy Dust Eye Shadows (£10.00)
I’ve written about these recently, but with due reason – they’re fabulous. Available in six different shades, these little pots provide a great shimmering base and an awesome highlighter when used in the corner of eyes. Although the pots can get messy if you’re not careful, a light dip will provide enough product to gently buff into the lid and create a subtle finish in seconds. I’ve had so much fun with these and think they look great with just a slick of black liner over the top.
7. Bare Minerals Lash Domination Mascara (£17.00 but currently on sale for £13.60!)
I had this in my collection for quite some time before I started to use it, but now I have there’s no looking back. The twisted wand contains lots of stubby bristles to pick up product and ensure it’s distributed to even the tiniest of lash, ensuring that your lashline is volumised as much as possible. It helps to define lashes, coat them without looking spidery and add tonnes of volume – it can be built up gradually for serious impact. You do have to be careful to not get product on your eyelid, but this is definitely one of my current favourites for both daily and weekend use.
8. Bare Minerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow & Base (£14.50)
I was incredibly dubous when I first discovered these, but now I’ve had a few months to get to grips with them they’re an essential in any makeup bag. The muted colours provide the perfect base for eyes, helping to even out skin tone and create a great starting point for creating stronger eye looks. The cream doesn’t crease, drying within seconds to leave a flawless finish (although it can be blended really well before it dries.) What’s even better is that they contain oodles of skincare benefits too, ensuring your eyelids are well looked after! (Read my original review here.)
9. Illamasqua Vintage Metallix in ‘Vintage Nude‘ (£16.50)
This little tub contains the most beautiful vintage shade of nude, perfect for using as a base beneath smokey looks or pairing with a strong liner. It’s incredibly lightweight and blends on the lid with ease, leaving an almost invisible finish and a subtle sparkle. Fabulous for daily wear when you don’t want to overdo the makeup, this is equally as powerful worn on a Saturday night with a strong slick of lipstick. You need such a small amount that this tub will last you for eternity, more than justyfying the price tag!
