The world is amazing, especially when you look at it through Instagram filters. The social network has become a huge part of our lives, amassing over 200 million users in three years – half the time it took Twitter to reach the same number! With 69% of users being between 18 and 44, and female, it’s no surprise that certain images do much better than others. Instagram can be a great way of sharing your life, curating beautiful images that represent your passions, or simply showing a certain angle of your online presence. Especially great for bloggers showing off their outfits or nail art, scrolling through Instagram is a great way to spend ten minutes on the tube. Here are my top five Instagram shots to share to send you on your way to visual success…
1. Yummy Food
It’s not rocket science, but it works. We all like looking at and lusting after beautiful food – even if someone else’s dinner is always better than our own. Sharing pictures of posh canapes, extravagant desserts, amazing ice-cream and burgers piled higher than the Empire State Building will always be popular; just be sure to position the garnish just right and add a filter to make it look even more delicious.
2. Nail Art
Beautifully crafted nails are incredibly popular and allow us to lust over the artist’s creativity. I’m useless at creating intricate designs (I’ve never been the patient type,) but adore looking at other users’ creations. Sharing nail art, new nail colours or even regramming amazing designs you’ve discovered will undoubtedly be popular – there are over ten million images using the hashtag #nailart alone!
3. Inspirational Quotes
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but words that form an inspirational phrase or famous quote can be worth a hundred pictures. Instagram users want to be motivated to make their life as perfect as a rose-tinted-filter-picture, however unrealistic, so quotes and phrases that impart a little wisdom will always go down a treat. Use an app to create your own or simply search Pinterest for beautiful images with a motivational message.
4. Re-Gramming News
Following celebrities, magazines and other bloggers will not only fill your feed with great content, but will allow you to share stories and breaking news by re-gramming their images. You can use a simple app to share the content on your own page (like retweeting) and be known as a great source for all things beauty/fashion/celeb. Instagram users are fundamentally lazy, so do their job for them and you’re on to a winner.
Oh the good old (hashtag) selfie, how we love you so. Posting a perfectly poised pose to show off your new lipstick, sunglasses or hairdo may be slightly gratuitous, but we love it all the same. There’s a reason why the word has made it into the dictionary – we just love a selfie!
