Slipping into bed beneath freshly cleaned sheets is about as good as it gets. There’s nothing quite like snuggling up to a soft and bouncy pillow after a long day, turning on some trashy telly and applying some relaxing beauty products. I’ve had a little nighttime routine going for some time now, believing it helps me to relax and get on my way to the land of nod feeling good. After I light a candle and put on an awesome pair of pyjamas, these are the products I’m currently turning to to ensure I’m getting the most out of my eight hours sleep.
1. & Other Stories Chenille Hand Lotion (£5.00)
Your body gets an extra chance to regenerate as you sleep as it’s less focused on battling the day’s stresses and strains. It’s a great time to apply hand cream and ensure it can get to work as you slumber, providing dry and hardworking skin with a little boost. This pump action bottle from & Other Stories is a great bedside treat, providing a subtle cotton-like scent (which smells like fresh bed linen) and lightweight formula. The pump action bottle is great for applying when you’re half asleep or first thing in the morning, as you don’t have to worry where you dropped the lid.
2. The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil (£12.00)
A rediscovered favourite, I’ve been using this oil daily to tackle some dry patches that popped up on my cheeks. A drop or two massaged into skin provides the skin with a hit of Vitamin E, which helps to nourish the skin and regenerate dehydrated areas. Although it’s an oily texture, it’s actually really lightweight and doesn’t stick to the pillow or cause mess. However, it’s definitely best to apply this 30-45 minutes before you turn off the light – just to ensure it can penetrate into the skin and get to work before you rub it all off when tossing and turning! I wake up with a smooth and supple complexion, with dry patches gradually reducing over the course of a week.
3. Champneys Relaxing Pillow Mist (£8.00)
This lavender spray is great for adding a touch of scent to pillows and linen, helping to relax your mind and calm the senses as you slip into bed. A couple of pumps is enough for each pillow and can really help to get you in the mood for a good snooze. Champneys are definitely the people to turn to when you’re in need of a relaxing pamper session, so it’s no surprise their at-home products are just as fab. This would make a great little gift for a loved one too!
4. This Works Deep Sleep Stress Less (£12.00)
A little essential oil can go a long way when you’re feeling stressed, full of tension and unable to sleep. This little vial contains Eucalyptus to invigorate and counteract fatigue, Frankincense to relax and Lavender to help with tension and insomnia. You need just a little amount (applied to pulse points such as the wrists and behind the ears,) before you go to sleep to feel the benefits.
5. Bach Rescue Night Remedy (£8.99)
I’ve used these drops for many years, ever since I started to struggle with switching off in the evenings. A few drops on the tongue of this sweet tasting liquid really does help you to relax and enables a better nights sleep. It’s not a miracle cure or an alternative to prescription remedies, but I really believe it helps me switch off from the world and experience a deeper sleep. I’m never without a little vial of this by my bedside.
6. Lanolips 101 Ointment Lipbalm (£11.00)
This essential lipbalm contains 100% pure ultra medical grade Lanolin which literally melts between your fingers, providing a super smooth and soothing result on the lips. It’s perfect for really dry lips and an intensive overnight treatment, when the formula can really get to work over a number of hours. The formula is 100% pure, features 100% natural ingredients, is 100% fragrance free and holds up to 200% of its weight in moisture. What’s not to love?
