The Ultimate Electric Toothbrush: Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean

Since I made the switch from a manual to electric toothbrush, it’s impossible to go back. Using an electric toothbrush not only helps your mouth feel so much cleaner, but it makes a good routine easier to manage. Although I’ve tried many electric toothbrushes in the past and been extremely satisfied with their performance, until I tried the Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean I simply hadn’t experienced teeth cleaning at its best. If there was a gold plated, sports car equivalent in the world of toothbrushes, then this would most certainly be it. It doesn’t just look great, but the Diamond Clean provides an oral experience to leave you almost speechless – partnered with the most technological advanced system available on the high street today.

The sleek design of the Diamond Clean makes this feel like you’re using iPad technology within your mouth; the brush unit itself is exceptionally light and easy to use, while the built-in mode lights add a touch of modernity to something that could’ve been designed purely for functionality. Available with two brush heads and five modes (including: clean, whitening, polish, gum care and sensitive,) you can find the most convenient combination for you and your needs. Unlike most electric toothbrushes which operate using a circular motion, the Sonicare Diamond Clean uses oscillating motions to polish teeth and remove up to seven times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. In just one week of using it, I’ve noticed my teeth are definitely whiter and feel cleaner than I think they ever have – the difference is instantaneous and makes you want to brush your teeth more than just twice a day!

I’ve got very sensitive teeth and frequently find myself wincing when I hit a tender part of my mouth. However, with the Sonicare Diamond Clean I’ve found it doesn’t aggravate or catch a sensitive area at all; in fact it’s the most pleasurable cleaning experience I’ve had in a very long time. The standard mode is still light enough for sensitive teeth, but the ‘gum care’ and ‘sensitive’ modes slow the oscillations slightly to ensure a more comfortable experience. If you want added whitening or additional polishing, you can change the modes to ensure a lengthier clean of your more visible gnashers. Like many electric toothbrushes, the Sonicare Diamond Clean also includes a subtle notification after every thirty seconds to encourage you to move on to the next area of the mouth – I find this extremely helpful in knowing how long I’ve been brushing and how long to spend on each area without overdoing it.

Not only does the toothbrush look great and perform exceptionally, the technology behind charging and storing the unit is something you’d expect from Apple. The carry case the unit comes in isn’t just handy for taking it away with you, but is also a charging unit itself – you simply attach the USB cable to the base and either plug into your laptop or use the adaptor plug to use in the traditional way! You’ll never be left in a sticky situation, where your toothbrush runs out of charge away from home, ever again. Not only that, but the every-day charging unit is a magnetic silver base that is plugged in and sits under the Sonicare glass provided; you plug it in, pop the brush base into the glass and it magically charges using a magnetic field! There’s no more messy cords or unsightly base units to hide in a cupboard, as the glass you use to hold the brush day-to-day magically turns into the charger. Genius.

Everything about this electric toothbrush is a revolution in dental care. It looks great, feels great, includes revolutionary charging methods and really helps to clean teeth deeper than anything else I’ve tried. The brush head is effective but actually less abrasive than a lot of other electric toothbrushes, focusing on gently buffing teeth rather than aggressively scraping the surface. The first time I used this I rushed into my bedroom to tell my boyfriend all about my new toy, even spending ten minutes talking about the genius charging units; this is definitely a gadget for both men and women. Although this unsuprisingly comes with a price point of £250.00, it’s worth every penny if you’re seriously in the market for a tool to help you manage your oral health.

The Sonicare Diamond Clean has an RRP of £250.00 and is available online and via Boots. (Although keep an eye out for half price offers!) Find out more about the Sonicare Diamond Clean  on the Philips website here.
