COMPETITION: Philips Lumea Precision Plus (IPL Hair Removal System)

As a woman we have to put up with a lot of body maintenance to keep us looking our best: manicures, pedicures, face masks, hair treatments… And worst of all, hair removal. If there was a way you could magically remove all your unwanted body hair, I’m pretty sure it would be snapped up without hesitation. Although it’s not quite magic, Philips newest electronic device offers something almost as great; the Lumea Precision Plus IPL Hair Removal System works wonders to prevent the reappearance of hair on the face as well as the body via targeted gentle pulses of light.

The handheld device brings the benefit of inconvenient salon
treatments to the comfort of your own home, allowing users to
significantly reduce hair regrowth on the body and face. Philips have
been working with leading dermatologists for over ten years to bring
this product to life, ensuring that results are long-lasting and
effective. IPL (or Intense Pulsed Light) has been used in the
professional beauty market for over fifteen years; Philips have tested
their at-home Lumea Precision Plus on over 2000 women and has seen
significant hair reduction after only two treatments, making salon
visits a thing of the past. The device works by heating up hair at the
root, which absorbs the released light pulses and stimulates the hair to
shed; the follicle remains at rest until the biological clock tells it
to become active again and grow a new hair. As all our hairs are at
different stages in their growth cycle, it’s essential to repeat the
treatment every two weeks for up to two months to ensure all hairs are
shed effectively.

Unlike other clunky and large devices
that have been seen on the market, the Philips Lumea Precision Plus is
small and handy. It comes in a super cute and space-conscious (as well as
inconspicuous) case and needs no excessive base unit or cords. Once
charged, the handheld device can be used cordless to provide up to five
months worth of treatments – it isn’t heavy and it won’t hurt your wrist
after ten minutes of use! It’s super easy to use too: all you have to
do is check your skintone against the enclosed chart, turn on the device
and adjust the settings to match your requirements. Once you’re set,
you hold the device at 90 degrees against your skin, wait for the
indicative green light to flash on the reverse of the unit and click the
button… That’s it!

Considering this is quite a
complex piece of equipment, the ease of use is astounding. Even my Mum
could understand this and get to grips with the system in under five
minutes (which is saying something.) The red light emitted isn’t painful
and most won’t even feel a thing; depending on where you use the light
(it’s suitable for all over the body and face) it may feel like a tiny
prick, but on the whole it’s completely pain free and entirely
comfortable. If you’re using this to remove unwanted hair from large
areas such as the legs, it will take a little longer to fully treat the
area – it’s suggested that each lower leg takes about 15 mins to
complete, meaning you’ll need 30-60 mins to treat the entirety of your
leg surface area. However, if you wish to treat the underarms, bikini
line or face then you’re looking at only a few minutes.

Considering
an eight treatment session of laser hair removal can cost over Β£2000 at
a Harley Street Clinic, investing in an at-home device that can provide
unlimited treatments on unlimited areas of the body seems like a wise
choice. Although the Philips Lumea Precision Plus
will set you back around Β£450.00, it will last up to five years before
you even need to change a bulb: that’s 25% of the cost of professional
treatments, with the added benefit that you can continue to top-up when
needed for the rest of the product’s life.

This all
sounds fine and dandy, but does it really work? Can this handy little
gadget really help to remove unwanted hair and leave limbs feeling soft
and smooth only after a few weeks? I want to put it to the test… With
one of you! I have one of these devices worth Β£450.00 to give away to
one of my readers. I want you to put it to the test over eight weeks and
really let me know what you think. Your story will be shared on LBQ
after the testing period, so we can all see the long-term benefits of
the Philips Lumea Precision Plus. Up for the challenge? Enter via the
widget below and lets get hair-free…

(bev_metallica on Twitter)I had to have the lymph nodes removed under one arm – now I'm not allowed to shave that side because any nick or cut on the left side could set off a painful condition called lymphodema. I've been waxing, but frankly, it's messy and it hurts. Cream – you try sitting with your arm in the air for 15 minutes!I'd love to try this because there's no risk of nicks and grazes as there is with shaving or epilating.

I suffer from excess of body hair. I tried everything including some blood work to see if I had any genetic problem, but it said I was fine. But the truth is I'm quite ashamed of my body. I spent a lot of time, getting rid of the hairs and I also descolorate a lot.. So this would be amazing for me! I would love, love to try it. Maybe this can finally help me, with my problem.

I've tried professional laser hair removal and it worked for a while until the hair grew back again! And I can't afford to keep having salon treatments, I want something I can use at home, discreetly and I can whip out when and if pesky hairs re-appear to zap them as soon as possible.

It would be amazing to get rid of my lady beard before it gets the chance to take hold – they seem to be catching where I live and the two hairs that keep reappearing on my chin are very worrying indeed !

I had previously embarked on a course of Laser Hair Removal in the days pre-children when I had disposable income! Unfortunately I couldn't make enough appointments and had no benefit. I have stuck to waxing since then but suffer dreadfully from ingrowing hairs, which sometimes develop into sinuses, leading to scarring. Between the regrowth, the waxing rash and the pustules from the ingrowing hairs, I no longer feel happy to wear a swimming costume. If I had the opportunity to try the Lumea system it could leave me happy enough to take my children swimming. Or sunbathe in public! I could even contemplate a tropical holiday (not much fun in shorts all the time!). Pick me, pick me, pick me!

I would sell me very soul to give this a try. Ive had pcos for a long time and my hormones are completely out of whack because of it. For years I've had to fight with my fave as I have Unwanted hair. The hair is very dark, thick and coarse and waxing doesn't really do a lot to help. On a daily basis I have to pull at my skin and follicles to remove the hair, it grows very quick. It's unsightly and effects my confidence and really has stopped me very doing a lot of social things. I don't mind the pain of plucking and waxing its how sore it makes me afterwards, and how red it makes me my follicles and skin often bleed after and its just really not nice. Is love to give this a go. Unfortunately I can't afford laser treatments and I know it's the only way forward.

  125. Stephanie Whitehouse
    January 11, 2014 / 1:23 pm

I'm so up for the challenge! I was doing home electrolysis on my facial hair, and I'm not sure if it was showing results. After two months, the machine packed up, so I'm back to plucking. I'm not sure who tells your body that you get older. I certainly never mentioned it, but my hair follicles seem to have caught on and are sprouting in all sorts of inappropriate places. I could live with slightly darker hairs on my upper lip, but the patches of dark hair on my chin drive me to distraction. I've also noticed that when I go into hibernation mode and stop shaving my legs for the winter, there seems to be more and thicker hair than there used to be.I'm only just into my fifties, so please let me try the Lumea before I turn into a gorilla.

It's not so much the hair on my legs and armpits that are the problem (I can live with that) it's the chin/face/neck area – I've got very pale skin, and very dark hairs and usually spend up to an hour a night with the tweezers to try and keep them under some sort of control as they seem to be getting worse and I am a little self-conscious of them. I'd love to try this as hopefully it will reduce the hair growth and give my skin a chance to recover (it can get quite red and sore-looking at times).

I would love a chance to try out the Phillips Lumea Precision Plus as I find shaving my legs such a chore! I've tried various other methods of home hair removal but not got on with them & usually end up going back to shaving. I've tried home waxing (& just made a sticky mess!), hair removal pads (like sand paper & just ended up with sore legs!) and hair removal creams. I did find one hair removal cream that I liked but after using it a few times I found I was starting to feel a bit unwell & was concerned I was starting to become allergic, so had to stop. πŸ™ I can't afford to shell out for expensive treatments at a beauty salon and to be honest I prefer the convenience of being able to do it in the comfort of my own home so I would jump at the chance to give this a try! πŸ™‚

I'd like to take part because I find shaving my legs such an absolute pain, I can never seem to get a really really close shave and I end up having to do it way too often. It'd also be an absolute honour to have my experience shared on LBQ blog πŸ™‚ Jade Beauty Butterfly | UK Beauty Blog

I have dark hair so shaving still leaves visible stubble, and waxing causes ingrown hairs, so I'd be very interested to try this.

Like most women, I spend lots of time and money removing unwanted hair, so any method which makes the whole process easier sounds perfect.

I'm not sure how graphic I can be on here but as a teenager I made the mistake of shaving my bikini line. I've paid for it ever since. Lazer treatment would be an option but honestly, who (and by that I mean people with a mortgage and responsibilities) can afford to waste thousands on this kind of treatment! I'd love to put the Lumea to the test. If it works as well as I expect it to, this affordable little gadget would put an end to years of wearing over sized pants and bikinis for me and I'm sure many thousands of other women.

I'd love to try this because I suffer from a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which has a lot of symptoms, one being excessive hair growth! I would have to shave like literally every day! If I shave in the morning, by that evening the growth is unreal! I can grow a better moustache than my husband! πŸ˜‰ xx

This sounds like a miracle for girls like me as my body hair regrows very fast, I can't shave as it re appears within a week hence I use an epilator by panasonic but I have to epilate quite a few times a week. I googled this device but it seems that it has not been launched in my country but whenever it would I really want to try this !!!!!

I would like to take part because I have spent too many hours of my life trying to keep myself smooth. I would love to share my experiences with the Lumea which would hopefully give long lasting results and free me from the drudgery and disappointing results of traditional hair removing methods.

well i am now 40 and i have tried alot of hair removal items over the years, none which really work that well the epilator really made me cry and the creams are messy, i cannot wax myself so it means a trip to the salon, and i also now have some annoying hairs on my face so i would love to trial it out! am sure my teenager daughter would help too xx

I would like to see for myself if the device really works. I have hair in places that no women should have to suffer. This little machine is a miracle if it works, I'd be delighted to get my hands on it and test it out. Wishing on my lucky stars. Thank you x

I want to take part because I'm yet to find hair removal that I'm happy with, it's either a chore (shaving), a huge pain (waxing & epilating, ouch), very chemically (creams) and I've even tried that no no hair removal system thing which basically just singed my leg hair off leaving a very unattractive 'burning human hair smell' lingering for the next 24 hours (much to my then boyfriend's dismay). ALSO, you're kind of my biggest blogging/life inspiration, you introduced me to the idea that I could get a have a career in social media post-uni which I now do (thanks!), you also sent me a really helpful email once about this, I'm not sure I ever responded saying a massive THANK YOU. SO working with you on a blogging project would be a dream!…aaannd I'm gonna stop now before I say something EVEN MORE embarrassing. Thanks for the opportunity Hayley <3

To see if it really works, and is it really so easy? Aah. I've just looked at the info properly, and not sure it would be suitable. Good luck everyone though.
