My Summer Refresh Challenge with Collect Plus

How much unloved stuff have you got knocking around your home? How many pairs of barely worn shoes, how many dresses still with tags on and how many necklaces have never seen the light of day? I for one have a slight addiction to shopping and am rather an impulse shopper, meaning I often come home laden with bags and then forget what I’ve been frivolously splashing the cash on. Having recently moved flat and cleared out a lot of the tatt that had been cluttering up my peaceful sanctuary of a bedroom, I also discovered a lot of things that were simply too good for the charity shop but not quite right for me to keep and wear. It was perfect timing when Collect Plus, a simple to use courier service, got in touch and challenged me to sell my unwanted items on eBay and use the money raise to refresh my Summer wardrobe just in time for the new Autumn season. After rummaging around and listing everything I could find on eBay, the fun really began…

Collect Plus is a really simple alternative to the sometimes rather complicated and confusing postal service charges. You can link your online account to your eBay account after registering, meaning all the buyers’ addresses can be pulled through to the Collect Plus website and be automatically created labels. Once you’ve chosen the service you require (light, regular or heavy in weight, as well as economy or standard in speed) you simply confirm all the details and print off a label via your computer, which is affixed to your parcel. It can get extremely confusing when trying to list items on eBay, not really knowing how much it’s going to cost to send until you’re in the Post Office watching the cashier trying to squeeze your envelope through a faux letterbox. I’ve lost so much money from incorrectly listing items postal charges, so Collect Plus makes it really easy – the prices are standard and extremely clear, making it simple to get the eBay charges correct first time around. Starting from £4.89 and increasing to a maximum of £9.29, the price also includes free tracking and £50.00 insurance on all items as standard; you can increase the value of the cover if you’re sending high value items, as well as asking for a recipient signature for only £1.00 extra. Not only is this so much cheaper than using a lot of other couriers and postal services, the options are clear and practically impossible to get wrong.

With over 5,000 Collect Plus drop-off points nationwide, including many corner shops and convenience stores, your local one is easy to find. Once your parcels are all packed up and labeled correctly, you simply drop off your load at your local Collect Plus point and sit back to enjoy the simplicity. You can track your parcel online using the unique code too, providing peace of mind and an answer to those sometimes tricky buyers. Unfortunately I had a little bit of drama with my parcels, with four out of fourteen going missing and not reaching their destination; however, I’m a firm believer that it’s how a company responds to issues that makes a difference to the customer, rather than the issue in the first place. Although losing that proportion of packages is never a good thing, the customer service I received from Collect Plus was second to none. After being contacted by a member of the team to get to the bottom of my missing parcels, an investigation was launched to find out exactly where they were and why they hadn’t reached their intended destination. Although they couldn’t be located, Collect Plus sent me a cheque to cover the value of the missing items (no questions asked) within a week and even offered to contact the eBay buyers on my behalf so I didn’t receive negative feedback. They were extremely concerned that even one parcel went missing and have been thoroughly considerate and apologetic throughout the whole process… Something that a lot of other brands could learn a lot from.

So the exciting bit: what did I buy with my new found funds? I went on a bit of an accessory splurge in New Look, stocking up on statement necklaces that can update any basic dress or outfit; they have a beautiful collection of statement pieces and unique designs that I find hard to believe are available from their stores. They’re so pretty! Once you have a few necklaces and a couple of new season bags (clutches are a must,) you can instantly uplift a shift dress or that summer outfit you’re not quite ready to confine to the cupboard. In addition to some fabulous jewellery, I popped right on over to ASOS to nab myself a few basic mid-season dresses that are perfect with or without tights. I love a midi dress, especially as it keeps the chill out on slightly cooler days, while being perfect with ankle boots when the Winter weather really kicks in. A few darker, plain dresses are all I need to take me from one season to the next without spending an absolute fortune – the six dresses below are what I now have hanging in my wardrobe, ready to take me all the way into next Spring. I’m so glad I cleared out my clutter and turned my trash into cash with the help of Collect Plus… You never know how much money you could be storing in your wardrobe!
