Originally a health drink in the 1790’s and named after it’s French street number in the 1800’s, the No.4711 fragrance is awash with history. The original No.4711 fragrance bottle was the first to be designed upright with a glass neck and cork, revolutionising the perfumier industry, and was even the best selling fragrance in the 1920’s alongside Chanel No.5. With all this fascinating history and amazing stories to be told, it’s astonishing that the fragrance range is relatively unknown amongst the masses. The unique scent is extremely refreshing and based on citrus fruits, providing an uplifting unisex perfume that transcends decades. The brand have recently launched a new lighter version, No.4711 Nouveau Cologne, which is described as: “the interplay of blackcurrant, peony, and sandalwood; a unique, harmoniously fruity fragrance composition for women and men.” The fruit of the evodia plant has been prized for its calming effect in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, so its inclusion relaxes the senses and takes you away to a more exotic place. The scent is very lemony and not to my personal taste as an everyday product, but it does remind me of holidays and mosquito sprays! I love the fact that the design has remained true to its heritage, yet they’ve extended the range into deodorants, shower gels and body lotions so you can get the delicate uplifting fragrance in whichever format you love. Definitely worth a sniff the next time you’re in a department store, and definitely something to get for Granny this Christmas.
