The year 2012 will go down in history as the year it was great to be British. We may have failed in the football and the weather, but the Queen’s Jubilee and the London Olympics have created an atmosphere I’ve never experienced before. What better way to celebrate my allegiance to the UK than with a limited edition Union Jack Mulberry clutch bag? The iconic British brand has released a capsule collection, including this pouch as well as a Lily and Bayswater, which features a 14ct gold Union Jack flag in the place of their normally plain metal lock feature. The delicate gold compliments the dark brown leather of the clutch, creating something that will stand the test of time while adding an extra something-something to any outfit.
As expected, the leather smells delicious and is really soft to the touch. The detail of these bags is amazing, with the contrasting colours in the flag bringing out the delicate features even more. Although this isn’t a large pouch (it’s about the same size as the Lily,) it’s perfectly sized to carry a small purse and all your gadgets without a problem. There isn’t an internal zip pocket, which is a bit annoying, but there is this truly fabulous ‘Mulberry Hearts Great Britain’ stamp on the inside instead. For me this is totally an investment piece and something that I’ll treasure for years to come; this will no doubt not only hold its value, but increase over time to give me something quite unique and special. They do have a few left of these in stock (although I got the last from Westfield London) so if you want to grab a piece of history and a souvenir a little less tacky than a Team GB mug, get down to your local Mulberry store pronto.
The Union Jack Mulberry pouch is £200 and available in store and online.
