There’s been much written about natural and paraben free haircare before and it’s something we’re all actively seeking more and more of. Parabens are essentially preservatives used in cosmetic products to prolong their life and prevent bacterial growth, but because of their chemical nature they’re known to create irritation to those of us who suffer from sensitive skin. Quite often dermatitis can be the result of using products excessively which contain this chemical, so it’s the easiest thing to rule out – however the search for reasonably priced, effective products isn’t always that easy! Celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton has clearly identified a growing place on the haircare shelves and launched his own range of ‘Naturally Paraben Free’ shampoos and conditioners. The range is currently exclusively available in Asda and includes hydrating, colour case and energising options.
The bottles are really quite fab – clean designs, simple use of the flowers, focusing on the paraben free claim and making the most of Andrew’s name. I love the use of the floral design to distinguish between the different product benefits, plus they look blooming great in my shower. The smell subtly of flowers, but it’s not at all overpowering or too much to use early of a morning; in fact I’d personally like a stronger scent to energise me (read wake me up with a zing.) As for the products, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The shampoo is extremely runny and a little bit cheap feeling, taking a fair amount of effort to work into a suitable lather. When rinsed away it didn’t leave my hair feeling particularly hydrated or even squeaky clean… It was a bit of a standard result that left me needing a really good conditioner to add the silky smooth feeling I lust after. The conditioner was pleasantly surprising though, a relatively thick formula which coated hair well and left it with a smooth-to-the-touch feeling. It didn’t feel thoroughly hydrated, nor has it left my hair really smooth or frizz-free, but it did give a good enough result considering it’s paraben free.
The product range overall is pretty fab seeing as everything is £2.99 – a totally affordable price point and a great range if you don’t have any specific hair concerns or treatment areas. I don’t know of any other ranges that are available for this price, made my a celebrity hairdresser and contain so many natural ingredients and botanical flowers. Even though the shampoo wasn’t quite what I’d lust after, for anyone with pretty normal hair this would be more than sufficient. Bravo to Andrew for making this range and bravo for him making it available in Asda so you can grab it with your weekly shop!
