Clinique Basics

When I find basic products that I love I find it really hard to part with them. It’s so difficult to find the perfect foundation and a great concealer, that when you finally get your hands on the holy grail it’s difficult to move on and try other things. Being someone who blogs about makeup, it’s an essential part of the party! Sometimes though I’m really glad I do branch out and find new things because it often pays dividends – as is the case with my two new favourite basic products from Clinique. Their new Superbalanced Makeup foundation and Airbrush concealer have helped to create a flawless base for me to build upon, creating such a great look that I’ve forgone the powder finish for the first time since the summer.

The Superbalanced Makeup foundation is perfect for those of you, like me, who have combination skin. It injects moisture where you need it most, whilst absorbing excess oil from more ‘lubricated’ areas of the face. I couldn’t quite put my finger on why this worked for me so much until I actually looked up what it was supposed to do – as someone who has to wear powder daily to ensure I get rid of shine, this has been an absolute dream to wear. Non-drying, matte without covering expressions and long-lasting, this gives me the confidence to leave the house with very little slap. I haven’t had to blot my face at the end of the day for as long as I’ve been wearing this and I’ve only just realised why! Not only does it give a great complexion, but it minimises the appearance of fine lines, contains antioxidants, is oil free and water resistant… Amazing.

The airbrush concealer has also been an essential part of my routine over the last few weeks while I’ve been suffering from horrendous breakouts and lack of sleep. Normally I hate these kind of concealers as they’re meant to be used as highlighters (think copies of Touche Eclat) but this worked surprisingly well. The liquid to matte formula is surprisingly thick, covering even the most prominent and red bump! This lasts all day too, blending into the foundation perfectly (a benefit of being from the same brand I guess) and helping to cover up eye bags. It’s easy to blend in, easy to build up and easy to cover any unwanted blemishes – all in all it makes my life just that little bit easier.

What are your essential ‘basic’ products that you can’t live without?

I thought this was a nail polish at first :s But actually, it looks really good! I don't use much Clinique stuff as I find it expensive, but these look like they're value for money.Devon
