Earlier I gave you a sneak preview backstage at Vauxhall Fashion Scout as they prepared for the Fashion Mode show. It was all about sleek up dos and big backcombed hair, so this is the final catwalk ready result. There was a distinct oriental look of the makeup, channeled through rouged cheeks, pale complexions, black flicks around the eye line and bright pink cartoon lips. This perfectly suited the inspiration of the clothes – a great example of how makeup and hair can work to accessorise an outfit. The hair was kept simple and sleek to keep the focus on the face, as well as providing a clean base for some of the extravagant headbands. I loved the simple detailing of the flicks and double buns – something I definitely want to have a go at.
The next look on the catwalk was distinctly different – think corpse bride on a bad day. Hair was backcombed beyond belief (so much so that after the show I had to mildly comfort a model in the toilet who was crying over her destroyed hair) and makeup that should not be tried at home! Whitened faces, black dull eyes and darkened lips… A look I don’t think will be channelling down to the high street any time soon! It did totally funk up an otherwise dull collection of clothes though, so well done to the Toni & Guy team for making Abba costumes look interesting.
