Skin deep

There seems to be a trend at the moment of make-up companies expanding into the skincare market. It makes sense really, because who better to look after your face than a brand who helps you pile it with slap every day? One of the ranges I was most excited about through comes from one of my favourite make-up discoveries of recent years – Bare Minerals. Today they launch their skincare range in boutiques and concessions and it contains products including cleansers, moisturisers, an exfoliator, eye cream and an overnight treatment which is truly unique.

All the skin products contain Bare Minerals trademarked/copywrited/coca-cola-locked-down Active Soil Complex formula which is derived from the minerals uniquely cultivated in soil. The video below will explain it far better than I ever could, but basically they’ve made a super-duper formula which will turn your skin into the equivalent of a soft, juicy tomato. (Watch the video for the reference on that one!) The products are really simple, keeping to a core line that looks fresh and feels soft. I love the packaging with its subtle design that looks like it’s been washed away as it fits in with the existing brand so well.

I’ve tried the moisturiser, cleanser and overnight treatment and overall I’m impressed. The moisturiser is light and easy to apply, although it does take a while to absorb into the skin. The cleanser is very ‘soapy’ smelling and super sticky when you first use it (it feels and gloups like glue but when it’s on the face it’s not as scary) but it’s non-drying and leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh. The only thing I would say is it has a little bit of that waxy feel on the skin after if you don’t thoroughly wash, so make sure you double clean with a flannel.

The overnight treatment though is by far my favourite; it contains a really high concentration of the soil complex and is basically applied with the brush to the skin like you would the regular Bare Minerals foundation. It gives you a really healthy looking glow, even though you don’t need it, and sits on the skin over any moisturiser or serum you would normally apply. I was really dubious with this, thinking it’s going to end up all over my pillow and not on my face, but it does seem to sink in and stay put. The real difference you’ll notice though it in the morning when you wake up, stroll into the bathroom and look in the mirror… even if you’re feeling drab and like you need another hour in bed, your skin will tell a different story. Refreshed, clear, bright, amazing. Because of the high concentration of minerals it literally works like an intensive treatment at the point of the day when our skin is regenerating, leaving you with a lovely looking mug.

The product range isn’t cheap, but then neither are the existing products. What you’re paying for here is a fab, unique formula with no nasties that will really continue the good work that the foundation has begun – if you already use it that is. The overnight treatment is £45, but goes a long way, the cleanser £15 and the moisturisers from £27. A good investment and sure to establish itself as a cult skincare range in the same way that Bare Minerals has.

You mentioned two of my favourite things in this post tomatoes, and dirt (soil). I don't know why these things excite me they just do!
