Wild ginger

I’m always very critical of hair products because my barnet needs them to work overtime. I’ve moaned many a time on here about products being too heavy, too light, leaving residue, tangling my hair… It’s not as easy as picking one off the shelf and letting it do its business. Because my hair is frizzy and coarse I need a really good serum based product to smooth and soften my hair so I can style it into a vaguely decent ook that lasts throughout the day. Step up Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Styling Treatment Oil – a silky, light serum that imparts moisture directly into the hair and smoothes like no other.

The first thing you notice about the oil is that is smells amazing… All of the Awapuhi products in this range contain ginger and you get a really subtle and delicious hit of warm fragrance when you pump the oil into your palm. Ginger is one of those love or hate ingredients, but those geniuses over at PM HQ have made the concentration small so it’s not offensive and doesn’t hit you like a tonne of bricks (or ginger stems.) I adore the scent though and literally couldn’t wait to test the oil out – you could say it was love at first sniff.

I’ve used Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Serum for years because it’s a really light formula which doesn’t weigh my hair down like a lot of rich serums, and this oil takes the same consistency. It’s very runny (and has been dropped on the floor quite a few times thus far) but this makes it super easy to run it all over your head and make sure you cover what you need to. When you dry your hair it does feel easier to style and less fly-away, but the difference is more noticeable after you’ve styled. My hair was so soft, smooth, shiny and yet still voluminous – so many serums or oils completely strip the volume, leaving you with a flat and lifeless mop. With this oil my hair still felt flicky and sassy, just controlled and really bright as my colour seemed to pop more too.

The only thing I can really compare it to is Moroccan Oil, but a lighter and better version. Moroccan Oil tends to flatten my hair if I put too much on, but the Awapuhi treatment didn’t have that effect at all. It comes is a very large bottle so this will keep you going all year and it way better than any other serum I’ve tried for a long, long time. I’ve got the rest of the range to try too (shampoo, keratin treatment, sea spray, shine spray, hairspray) and so far I’m liking it lots as well. A massive thumbs up from me… I can see my bathroom smelling of ginger for some time to come.

I've been on the SuperSkinny for a while now but find it makes my hair get dirtier and quicker. Been looking for an alternative or wondering if I am using it wrong.

My favourite destination would be anywhere with a bit or warmth and my 2 favourite gorgeous boys, my son and boyfriend. A beach we can all play on and a sea we can splash in preferably not too expensive too :)Fingers crossed and good luck everyone <3

Fanny – I don't think you can use it wrong so I'm not sure what's making your hair dirtier. Just put a pump in your palm, rub together and run hands through your hair… Is this how your using it? Wet hair is best.
