Save your skin

In 2007 2,300 people died of skin cancer. It’s the most common cancer in those aged between 18- 34 years and the number of cases of the deadly ‘malignant melanoma’ has risen to 9,000 a year. We cannot ignore this growing trend and worrying statistics because so many young people are needlessly dying for a tan. It baffles me why so many people still get addicted to sun beds when there are so many great fake tan brands out there that are both affordable and natural looking.

Some worrying facts:

  • You have a 75% higher risk of skin cancer if you regularly use sun beds before 30 years old.
  • A twenty-minute visit to a tanning booth is the equivalent to spending a day unprotected on the beach and it will cause lasting damage.
  • In June last year, Zita Farrelly, 29 from Salford died of skin cancer after using sun beds twice daily from the age of 14. (WTF?!)

The World Health Organisation and the EU have both warned that under 18s should not use sun beds and the charity ‘SunSmart’ are working with the Government to review the options and regulate the sun bed industry. The British Association of Dermatologists have sent the Government a dossier of evidence on the high risks of using sun beds and claim that some sun beds are now three times more powerful than they were a decade ago. Scary eh?

After being invited into schools in Scotland two years ago to educate young girls on how to tan safely and avoid unnecessary risks Fake Bake have been campaigning for everyone to ‘Save their Skin’. The brand are launching a campaign to raise awareness and speak out against the use of sun beds and in favour of false tan (obviously!) Jodie Kidd, Katie Melua, Denise Van Outen, Alex Curran, Geri Halliwell, Pearl Lowe, Charlotte Mears, Liz McClaron have all backed thier campaign because we all need to wise up.

To give you all a kick up the posterior and encourage you to embrace the fake tan, Fake Bake have kindly given me a fab hamper of all their best products to give away to one of you lucky people. The hamper will include a bottle of Fake Bake Flawless, Shimmer, Original, Body Polish and Bronzer! That’s a whopping £97 (RRP) worth of fake tan up for grabs in every format you’ll ever need. All you have to do is comment below with a valid email/twitter name and let me know where you wish you could be faking it this Summer… where in the world would you like to be with a golden tan? Simples.

Remember – always fake it. (I never thought I’d say that…)

It's horrifying the amount of people that put their skin through so much damage just to look bronzed! I'm obsessed with putting suncream on and when I'm in the sun I'm always paranoid about getting slightly burnt but I will be the old lady in decades time with lovely skin and not too many wrinkles (hopefully)! Please enter me in the giveaway – I would LOVE to show off my (fake) tan in the Carribean — sun, sea, sand and most importantly COCKTAILS! youSam xx

Very interesting post!If I could be faking it anywhere I'd be back in Turkey because that's where me and my fiancé got engaged! He took me out as a surprise for my bday (we'd eaten all inclusive at the hotel before hand). We had a water front restaurant and it was beautiful. We ordered and Tom vanished and spoke to a waiter which was odd. Anyway, he came back and we ate this gorgeous Turkish meal. … Then Tom vanished again. I assumed he was going for bday cake but instead came out with a guitar which he amazingly blagged from a Turkish band next door!! He then sung the song he wrote for me wen we got together! That got a big round of applause and a huge amount of tears from me! Then when I thought he was done, he got down on one knee! Happiest night of my life!So thats where I'd be – Turkey! For the sun, sea and memories!C_Brookes (twitter)

such a great campaign, I was watching an episode of "Beauty & The Beast – the ugly face of prejudice" on 4OD and I was so surprised that people still sun bed as frequently as once a month!? Maybe people will realise if this campaign is widespread.I REALLY need a holiday, though it doesn't usually do much good as I'm very fair skinned so I just freckle.. If I could go anywhere this summer I'd go to Australia travelling and visit my family in Brisbane, unfortunately as I am a poor student I can't afford to go anywhere and I've not been on holiday since 2009 :(

There are those who had not even experienced earning their degrees but they are in pedestals right now. Obviously a very clear intention of this type of site is to earn an income and could also signal to readers that they are not the focal point. Having a wonderful new product, service or concept that is market ready but not moving on the project is such a waste.Feel free to visit my page :: The Design Entrepreneur Free Download
