When the nights start drawing in and there’s a chill in the air, there’s nothing I like more than popping on a candle and snuggling up with a cuppa. There’s something about candles that relax me and make me feel comfortable, whether I’m watching telly, reading a book or soaking in a bath. There are loads of great candles around at the moment and these are my faves that would be a perfect gift for the lovely lady in your life.
L’Occitane are one of my favourite brands as they’re a bit rustic and ‘down with the fields’. These candles are beautifully scented – some of the best scents to have ever come out of a piece a wax, I’m sure – and feel really Christmassy. You’ve got Candied Fruit which is really berry and fruity (unsurprisingly) and Provencal Landscape which is really green, fresh and smells a bit like Christmas trees. At £12.50 each they’re not super cheap, but the scents more than make up for it. It’s a shame about the metal pack which lets them down and turns this into an amazing scented candle that’s hidden away, rather than a show-off-out-and-proud candle.
I love these candles from Next not only because they come in simple, elegant glass holders, but because they’re only £3.50. What a bargain. The scent is very subtle and doesn’t fill the room when lit, but they’re lovely to have out on show as they look so much posher than they actually are. They last for bloody ages to – mines been going practically every night for the last month and doesn’t show signs of running out of steam (or wick) soon. They come in about six different colours/fragrances and a pack of three for £10.00.
Aromatherapy Associates have been one of my best discoveries of the year. The brand is so fabulous and the oils really uplift or relax you; I always reach for AA over any other bath product. This delightfully named Comfort Candle is truly that – a beautiful candle that’s clean, fresh and contains comforting scents including ginger and rose. The scent is delicate and fills the room without being overpowering, so it’s perfect for bathtime or if you’ve got someone coming round for the evening. At £24 this is definitely a ‘show off’ candle, and with the elegant class pot it does the job well.
