Couture Reading

I had the pleasure of being invited to the launch of ultimate luxury brand and British institution, Harrods, play host to the launch of their new fashion bible – Couture in the 21st Century. The evening itself was delightful, delicious and a little bit champagne-fuelled, but what was the best thing was being able to see the book and even take one home to paw over.

“Harrods Publishing has joined forces with Rankin, one of the world’s leading photographers, to create a new fashion book, Couture in the 21st Century, a snapshot of contemporary design that focuses on the current overarching trend for the craftsmanship of yesteryear. Armani, Oscar de la Renta and Paul Smith, as well as fresh faces like Erdem and Hannah Marshall, the first-person text is accompanied by photographs and illustrations that span the last century, capturing the allure of couture at fittings and fashion shows, in the hands of the world’s best-known couturiers. Each designer describes his or her own particular relationship with couture, while the interview is accompanied by a portrait by Rankin, the internationally renowned photographer, who is well known for capturing the wit and personality of his subjects.”

So not only is the book made by some of the top names in the industry, but it contains beautiful photographs and contributions from the world’s most intricate and fabulous designers. It’s one of those books that you’ll treasure forever and will take pride place on your coffee table. Even the design of the book is luxurious and detailed, the cover being a silk deep teal colour with the design pressed in. Absolutely stunning. On the night an array of designers turned up to support the launch and my Fashionista Pack were lucky enough to meet Roland Mouret and Hannah Marshall, both of whom were lovely normal people. This is one book that everyone should be adding to their Christmas list, even if it’s just to lust after the pictures…
