Sorry Burt!

I’m all for trying a bit of natural stuff. There’s now so much available that if you really wanted to you wouldn’t need to use anything that wasn’t full of good ingredients that not only make you look fab, but feel fab too. I was sent a selection of Burt’s Bees cleansers to try and have been using their Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream. This is 98.8% natural, so you can’t get much better from that.

This is what they have to say about the product: “This rich, sulfate-free facial cleanser is made with a gentle, yet effective plant-based cleansing complex featuring quillaja saponaria (soap) bark extract and witch hazel. Luxurious lather foams away excess dirt, oil and make-up leaving skin feeling clean and refreshed. Extracts of chamomile, echinacea and aloe help soothe and calm skin while glycerin and cocoa butter provide a touch of moisture for naturally fresh, healthy skin.”

Now, I have to admit that when I first opened this I wasn’t really sure how to use it. Was it a cleanser I used in the shower or on a cotton pad? Was I being stupid, or was it really not clear. After playing with it for a while I finally decided it was definitely a shower product – ok, I may have had a dumb moment, but the instructions aren’t as obvious as I’d like them to be!

Burt claims to have created a ‘luxurious lather’ but I’m afraid he lied. This product doesn’t foam in the slightest, no matter how much you mix with water. (This only added to my confusion!) I used it five different times just to check I wasn’t being stupid and there really wasn’t any lather – not the smallest, most minute bubble. Nada. You can really feel (and smell) the witch hazel as you get a real minty feeling on your skin… you know, like when you’ve just brushed your teeth and they feel a bit tingly. I just didn’t get that fresh faced, deep clean feeling.

To make it worse it left me with a waxy layer on my skin after washing off, thanks to the glycerin, meaning I had to then use another facial wash to get rid of it. What’s the point in a facial cream that needs washing off with another product?! I really, really tried to like this product but I’m sorry to say it failed spectacularly. I didn’t like anything about it and also felt it was a bit too harsh for my skin, making the area around my nose and mouth very dry.

I was so surprised I didn’t like this cleansing cream as everyone had been raving about the products. They’ve won awards and sell in their droves across the globe. I’m all for natural fab products, but they have to do the job as well as the mass market brands you see in Boots. Maybe I’m missing something. Sorry Burt, maybe next time.

I've never tried this cleanser but I do have a soft spot for another one of Burt's Bees cleansers – the Orange one. I'd highly recommend giving it a go if you get a chance! Absolutely love everything about it 🙂

I've got that one too so I'll be trying it next. Hopefully it'll be better as I've heard fab things about it. x
