There’s nothing I like better than a good old rummage through a load of rubbish, just to find that one sparkling gem that you’ll love forever. Think the New Look sale rails and you’ll know what I mean. Now that Vintage is the new Couture, it’s all about charity shops, bric-a-brac stores and hunting around in Brick Lane.
Next week sees the launch of the first ever Designer Jumble Sale, a unique shopping event in aid of charity and offering hundreds of designer items donated by the fashion industry. The event is the brainchild of Abigail Chisman, ex Editor-in-Chief of Vogue.com (wowee), who has managed to secure amazing pieces to sell on to the public for as little as £5.00. (I’m sweating at the thought of this already.)
|It’ll be a lot less like this…|
The event takes place on the 22nd September at The Church of The Annunciation, an ‘Edwardian gothic gem hidden at the heart of London’s Marble Arch’. The Jumble Sale is free and is open 12pm-7pm, with a special auction taking place after. All proceeds are going towards the Pakistan Flood Appeal, as well as the Church itself, so you can buy yourself an amazing staple piece while feeling fab that your money is going towards a worthy cause.
Some of the pieces on offer include… a Valentino shirt or Joseph trousers for just £5; designer sunglasses by Betsey Johnson, Maria Grachvogel and Bruce Oldfield from £15; retro Yves Saint Laurent suits from £15 each; sumptuous shoes by Manolo Blahnik, Donna Karan and Stephane Kelian for as little as £20; statement staples by Chloe, McQueen and Marc Jacobs for around £30; and classic bags by Charles Jourdan, Gucci and Mulberry for under £60.
|… And a lot more like this!|
Oh. My. Bloody. God. It’s like I’ve died and gone to heaven. (That feels a little bit inappropriate seeing as it’s taking place in a church!) There will also be luscious cupcakes donated by Hyatt London, a kiddies corner with activities to keep them out of your way when you’re going all ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ and much, much more. To make it even better, it’s even won the endorsement of On|Off, the unofficial London Fashion Week event.
I’m definitely going down to have a rummage and I hope you will too. For more information or tickets to the after party, visit these websites or join the facebook group.
See you then!
