Dior is renowned for making fabulously beautiful products set amongst equally exquisite packaging. Not being that familiar with the brand I was delighted that they were kind enough to send me a collection of products to try. Included in the package was the most fantastic palette which has enabled me to say the following statement with heartfelt meaning: J’Adore Dior.
The ‘5 Couleurs Designer’ All-In-One Artistry Palette (a bit of a mouthful, but trust me, it’s worth it) contains everything you need to create a perfectly smokey, sexy eye. I was sent ‘Pink Design’ and it contains a white base, pale pink shine, dusky pink colour, deep purple shadow and a gel liner. There’s one rule I always preach to people – pinks and purples should be worn by the minority, as for most people it makes you look like you’ve been punched in the face. This palette breaks every rule I’ve ever set as the shades are so light, delicate and complementary that there’s no reason why every girl can’t get away with pinky eyes.
The white base is practically translucent, just giving a slight shiny shimmer to eyelids, highlighting them and refreshing your eyes. I even used this as a face highlighter – the concentration of shimmer is so great that it really catches the light and sparkles like a diamond. The pink shine is made from the same cloth, providing a lot of shimmer and a slight hint of a pinky hue. Personally I would also use this as a base or highlighter as there isn’t much difference; it’ll also make the palette last that much longer!
The pink result is more of a silver-pink, so that it complements every eye colour or skin tone. I normally stay away from pinks like I stay away from chipped nails, but this beauty has changed my mind. It highlights the eye delicately and looks fabulous when applied in one swish across the eyelid. The deep purple shadow is a fabulously dark colour, with slight hints of shimmer to complement the rest of the palette. Using the liner applicator you can create a smokey look easily as the colour builds up in concentration as you apply more, also being smudged easily.
I’m not a huge fan of gel liners, purely because I love my pencils so much. I do find it hard to apply with a brush, but the formula in the palette was so light and workable it’s hard to go wrong. Although not the darkest black, you can achieve a subtle sultry look by sweeping a few layers across your lash line. I wouldn’t recommend applying to your lower lashes though as I got in a bit of a mess!
I love everything about this palette and can’t wait to try different colours. I’ve never fallen in love with a shadow as much as I did the base shimmer – I’ve got a feeling that’s the one that’s going to get used up the quickest! The packaging is beautiful so any girl would be proud to carry this around for touch-ups after work. At £39 it’s pricey – but they do say style doesn’t come cheap.
