On-Trend Looks At Budget Price Points: Supermarket Fashion Has Never Been Hotter

SPONSORED FEATURE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GEORGE AT ASDA

Way before the high street was awash with budget retailers and the internet exploded with the sheer volume of affordable and fast fashion we have now, for me it was all about amazing supermarket finds. I grew up five minutes walk from a giant ASDA store and spent so much of my time wandering around the aisles as my mum piled groceries high, that I've always had a special kind of relationship with the superstore; even now I drive out of my way to return to the shop that holds so many comforting memories - and not just for the fresh fish and bumper packs of berries. Because the fashion is pretty incredible too.

Back when I was a poor student I used to buy so many of my outfits from the supermarket, knowing they'd not only be great quality but there would be no chance of anyone else sporting the same dress on Friday night. As a graduate money was still tight, but popping to ASDA meant I could get my fashion fix without having to eat beans on toast for the rest of the week. Skipping forward into my thirties and I still regularly browse the aisles to see what gems I can find, even if I'd be matching supermarket jeans with a designer handbag... That's what fashion is all about eh!

George At ASDA have really upped their game this season and have so many amazing gems that nod to some of the hottest trends (without the accompanying price points;) whether you want to bag a dusty pink biker with your pint of milk, snap up a sassy pair of gladiator sandals with your frozen veg, or swipe a jumpsuit through the till point alongside a bumper pack of loo roll, they've got you covered. Those clever supermarket folks challenged me to create two looks from their latest collection and I was definitely spoilt for choice; here's what I came up with...

LOOK ONE: KEEPING IT KHAKI

Keeping it simple, I've styled up my favourite Wonderfit Skinny Jeans (that fit beautifully on ladies with booty like me!) with an elegant Crochet Trim Tie Neck Blouse which nods to the boho trend that's making a comeback for SS18. I adore the tie detail and the bellowing sleeves; you'd never know this was less than twenty quid! No longer a shade just for military enthusiasts, khaki has never been more on-trend either; it's the perfect hue to 'edge' up your basics, and is just as neutral as a black or beige - meaning it's a great throw on tone and perfect to pop over jeans and a white top.

This Hooded Waterfall Jacket is effortless but super stylish, helping to add structure and stop the whole look seeming a tad bland; it goes with practically everything in my wardrobe and has been a great transitional piece to throw over a lightweight jumper too. Finishing the look off are my new fave Leather Cross Front Sandals in a delicate blush pink tone, which look about five times as expensive as they actually are: £12.50 I kid you not. They're so comfy, so elegant and so effortless that I've gone back and bought them in black too!

LOOK TWO: TROPICAL PARADISE

After the longest winter ever, spring is definitely on its way - and I'm getting in the mood with a tropical inspired look and a maxi I can't wait to wear on the beach. As a woman on the shorter and curvier end of the spectrum, suitable maxi dresses aren't the easiest for me to find; but this Tropical Border Print Maxi Dress ticked all the right boxes (elasticated waist for a bit of structure, cool strap details to keep it fun, decent length so I don't trip over it...) while being in a print I just can't get enough of. Although it's still a bit chilly for me to strip off and flaunt my maxi for the world to see, popping over a cute Crew Neck Cardigan in a hot shade keeps me warm and works with the colour palette perfectly.

Now lets talk about the shoes... George At ASDA have SO many amazing styles at incredible prices right now, and these Scalloped Tassel Sandals left my heart in a flutter before I'd even tried them on. What may look like a pretty simple pair of black flat sandals in fact holds a plethora of secret features: super fancy scalloped detail in a multitude of colours, little tassels that nod to the trend that keeps on giving, plus a little bit of padding to keep feet comfy all summer long. Be still my beating heart! For a finishing touch we've got a cute pair of Metallic Drop Earrings that are only a fiver, adding a sprinkling of summer in a flash.

I had to really reign myself in while shopping both in store and online for new pieces for my wardrobe - there are just SO many great things on offer, and none of them break the bank. With new items added weekly, it's well worth checking out what's new and popping a few things in your basket this summer. Which of my fave pieces will you pick?

  1. I was the same! I used to tag along to my mums shops every week and browse the clothing and assessories. Truely believe you can find some great things at amazing quality from supermarkets. Think they get overlooked easily as they’re not the most obvious fashion destination. You look lovely in your outfits!
