Age Defying... It's Electrifying

A few weeks ago I went to the Toni & Guy global gathering, which brings hairdressers from all over the globe to showcase the next season's trends, as well as recognising the hard work and skill the salons have. Next season it's all about big, angular, textured hair and extravagance, which can play havoc with our tresses. It seems perfect timing then that to coincide with a season of hair styling abuse, Toni & Guy's professional range Label M are launching a new range of age defying products. We all know hair is dead, but as we get older our hair loses even more of its goodness, sometimes leaving us with lacklustre barnets that have seen better days. It's important to add in additional nutrients to ensure our hair is bouncy, full, strong and shiny - which is where Label M's Therapy Age-Defying range comes in.

The four products (shampoo, conditioner, treatment and protein cream) all contain a patent pending Rejuven-8 Complex. Created exclusively for Label M, it utilises eight technologically active anti-ageing ingredients to leave leaving hair looking strong, replenished and youthful. Some of the ingredients include white caviar, sweet chestnut, African baobab trees, iron rose crystal, glycolic acid extracted from turbinado and palm sugars - impressive no? The brains behind the brand are really excited about this 'revolutionary' launch, and so they should be.

The purple packaging certainly makes these stand out and the pump action bottles make it easy to get the amount you need, not wasting a drop. The whole range smells sweet and uplifting, not unlike a bowl of parma violets, or as Poppy Dinsey from WIWT.com said: "It smells like Disney Princesses." The products are the same quality that you'd normally expect from Label M - thick formulas that lather and condition well, leaving your hair soft and manageable. The result I got from this range isn't as instantly recognisable as some other ranges, but after a few washes your hair does feel a bit fuller of bounce. It's a long term solution, helping to almost repair damaged hair and reinvigorate it from within.

I'm currently loving the Protein Cream, which is applied to hair as is a serum or leave in conditioner. A few pumps help to give your hair a boost, injecting some key minerals and helping to prevent frizz and unruliness. This, used in conjunction with a serum, really does leave my hair feeling great. These have become part of my hair wardrobe - definite must haves and basics to ensure my barnet is in as good a condition as it can be. The shampoo and conditioner are great added bonuses if you have the cash, giving good results but nothing mind blowing, but this is a little gem.

Vaseline Limited Edition: It's here!

So the wait is over. Vaseline have unleashed their new limited edition flavour on the world and it's Creme Brulee! Did you guess correctly? It's a really lovely, subtle fragrance that makes putting on lipbalm a little more yummy. It's currently available in Selfridges (at £2.99 a pot) until it launches nationwide over the next few weeks, where you can even pop in and strike a pose in their pouting booth. Yummy yummy.

When I was little I was a ballerina. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays were ballet days and I spent all my time competing for trophies, picking out extravagant costumes and having my hair pinned pack off my face so I looked like I'd had a Croydon Facelift. Tip Your Hat

I love hats, especially in the winter time. You can plonk a fashionable fedora on your head and use the excuse that it's helping to keep you warm, while channelling your inner boho chic. I've already become a little bit obsessed with massive floppy hats and have already picked up some statement pieces from H&M. You can pretty much get fedoras from every shop you go into now, but these ones have got my vote because they're great quality, fit well, aren't too floppy and withstand being folded up in a bag for over 24hrs. Why pay more for something so simple, especially when you can personalise the band... I'm going for a feather in my cap this winter.

Fully Concealed

To me, concealer is the most important product in any makeup bag. Even when I was skint and at Uni, I ate baked beans for a week just so I could stock up on an expensive concealer. On the whole you can get by with a £2.99 lipgloss and a mascara for under a fiver, but with a concealer you definitely need to invest in something a little bit more substantial. For the last six months I've been a complete convert to Bobbi Brown's concealer, but as it came to an end (with a quiet little sob from me) I decided to give a Nars concealer a whirl. They've expanded the range so there are now ten different shades to choose from, right from white as white to darker hues.

The concealer comes in a twistable pen, encased in a matte finish case. (The only issue I have with Nars is that the packaging always gets covered in product, and this is no exception... It needs cleaning all the time as it ends up looking a bit skanky!) The concealer itself is a highly pigmented, soft and blendable texture that melts into the skin. You only need a very small amount to cover blemishes 100% and with confidence. Most importantly, there's no caking and it lasts all day, so there's no need to feel paranoid that that pesky spot is peeking through or you're showing those last few hours in the pub under your eyes.

The fact that there are so many shades makes this an amazing concealer. If the shade match isn't perfect the formula doesn't blend into skin - lighter patches across your face may be invisible in your bathroom, but under different light you could look like a patchwork cover. The concealer has a matte, slightly powdery finish too, so it settles on the skin with no need for powder. I can't shout about how great this concealer is enough... It's utterly worth its £17.50 price tag as it helps to create a flawless base from which to build the rest of a look. I'm a convert. Merci Francois Nars.

Eye Eye Eyeko

Changes are afoot in the Eyeko world. If you've been onto their website recently you'll have noticed that the Eyeko that's been around since 1999 has waved good bye to its uber girlie, slightly sickening sweet, identity and ushered in a more sophisticated and simple approach. I was historically always a little bit put off by Eyeko because the range looked like it was intended for my 15 year old self - it's not always a good look to be carrying around a bright pink, chunky lipbalm with a big cartoon face on it. They became a bit of a cult favourite in the bloggersphere for making great products at reasonable prices and the only way seemed to be up... So why have they scrapped everything and pretty much started from scratch?

Eyeko are completely revolutionising their brand, to the point where it's almost unrecognisable. Gone are the Fat Balms and nail polishes that were so adored. Gone for good. Now it's all about 'putting the eye in Eyeko' and the focus is on mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow. That's a pretty bold step, to completely discontinue your most successful products. They must be crazy! Not only that, but the brand design is a lot simpler, more sophisticated and approachable (gone are the penny sweet pink and bows/hearts/flowers,) taking the whole identity back one step to something that's got longevity. The Eyeko shield becomes the focus, the colours are a lot more muted and everything looks that little bit more premium.

Another noticeable change is that you can no longer get Eyeko in Superdrug. Now you can pick up your Eyeko goodies in Harvey Nichols.... Harvey bloody Nicols! This is the only brand in history to have moved that way, especially moving into one of the most prestigious and luxurious department stores in the UK. Eyeko has become a whole new experience and they're investing in their future. The prices reflect the new identity too, with mascaras going back up to £15 each (something that's been causing quite a stir already,) and a consultant helping you to choose the perfect products for you. This is a really brave move by the brand and one which I hope pays off. I'm 100% more likely to buy into the brand now than I was before, so in that respect it's done its job well... I can't wait to see what else they've got in store and how Eyeko progresses over the next year or so. Will this go down as the bravest move in beauty ever, or the worst?

Guess the flavour...

So last night I got hope to an extra special parcel. It wasn't full of glitz and glamour... in fact it was probably, visually, one of the dullest parcels I've ever received. Just a white envelope with a plain white pot inside. Inside the white pot was some white stuff that just happens to be the top secret new flavour of Vaseline. This is where it starts to get exciting. Last year Vaseline played a practical joke on us all by releasing information about a limited edition Marmite flavour of the petroleum jelly; it went down so well that they decided to release their first ever 'limited edition' variety for real.

The secret is that nobody actually knows what flavour this new variety will be. I was lucky enough to be sent one of only a handful of samples to see if I could guess correctly... I couldn't! My guess was vanilla, but they've already told me I'm wrong. It's a very delicate, slightly sweet scent so it has to be something along those lines; I can't wait to find out what it is! If you want to guess for yourself you can use the hashtag #vaselinelimited and see if you can do better.  The good news is that next Thursday the big reveal will take place in Selfridges and I'll be there, tweeting frantically to make sure you're the first to know!

Pearl Lowe dips her wick

Probably the strangest title I've ever written on this blog. Pearl Lowe isn't just a fashionista who designs for Peacocks and ropes her daughter into modelling the clothes, she's teamed up with luxury candle brand DP London to launch her very own range of beautiful candles. Not only do they look fabulous, but all candles are made purely from 100% natural wax and contain no palm oil; a product that contributes to deforestation in Indonesia, Malaysia and South America due to its vast plantations. The candles come in re-usable packaging in the form of a bespoke, handmade Japanese porcelain container - eco friendly, practical and pretty!

Pearl says: “For me scent is quite simply the ultimate home accessory. I love transforming the mood with these candles and find candlelight so decadent. They envelop a room with scent that lingers for hours, and create complete calm in my home. Can you believe that Halloween is almost upon us? I have no idea where this year has gone - I can barely believe we've passed festival season, let alone it being time to dust off the pumpkins and put on our witches hats. Halloween is only a week or so away, so it's time to get prepared and stock up on sweet things. It's not all about handing out lollipops and jelly babies though; why not treat yourself this Halloween with a definite treat from Philosophy. I saw this in Primark (of all places) and had to pick it up. How appropriate is this? A make up bag with a crown on it... As if it was made for me! I'm pretty surprised at the little bits and bobs you can pick up in Primark and how they're ever expanding into the beauty arena. It's always good to pick up a little something with your tights and ballet pumps... Especially when it's only £1.50. What's the best thing you've ever got from Primark?


Rodial: Life and Style

Despite the controversial names, I really am a fan of Rodial. They make some brilliant products that feel amazing, smell amazing and make you look amazing - albeit after costing you an arm and a leg. There's nothing wrong with a little luxury in your life, and Rodial wasn't built for every day... It's all about the extravagant treats. They're bringing that little bit of luxury into a different arena with the launch of their 'Life & Style' range, which is built not for the skincare benefits, but for the benefit of relaxing indulgence and beautiful emotion enhancing scents.

The range includes three scents: Rehab, Socialite and Lounge. Rehab combines shea butter with the scent of honey milk and almond; Socialite provides a delicate scent of pink champagne and cassis; Lounge offers a luxurious aroma of honeycomb and vanilla. All three scents are absolutely beautiful and make you want to lick the tub once you open it. Not only do all three variants come in an indulgent body souffle, but also a bathing balm (just drop a blob into running water like a bubble bath) and a fabulous candle.

The brand identity remains in the notes of the silver accents, although each scent has its own colour way: pale pink, cream and pistachio. Prime Time

MUA have made quite a splash in the makeup world over the last few months. Their products are pretty ace and the bonus is that nothing costs more than a fiver. I'm regularly sporting their eyeshadows and face products, so the latest addition to the range slips in quite nicely. They're releasing an eyeshadow primer to compete with the iconic primers from brands like Urban Decay. Whoop.

The primer is a neutral skintone colour which is applied using the sponge applicator. You only need a little bit and it's easier to tap it into skin and spread out over the whole lid with your index finger. It needs to be left for about 30 seconds to dry before you can put your eyeshadow on over the top as usual. It does feel slightly sticky if you don't leave it to dry properly, but otherwise it's practically invisible.

In terms of its longevity, it does help eyeshadow to stick around and look fresh all day long, as well as enhancing the colour a little and making it appear as true as it does in the eyeshadow tray. I'm not a huge user of primers usually so for me this adds in another step and another product in my already rushed routine, but for a night on the town I'd definitely use this under a smokey eye.

Autumn Shimmers

Although it's hard to say goodbye to my orange nails, I do love the dark and shimmer shades that come out with a new season. My talons literally turn to the dark side come Autumn, so they're happy to have some mid-range colours to choose from, courtesy of 17. As part of their new collection they've released three nail polish shades that give some of the designer brands a run for their money - did someone say dupe for Chanel?

Within the range is a dusty purple, shimmering green and metallic dirty gold. All of the colours have dimension, catching the light and showcasing subtle undertones that should technically clash, but actually work well. The formulas are thick - you can actually get away with only one coat - and dry pretty quickly too, leaving you with a striking nail. They do chip really quickly though, so make sure you wear a topcoat and be prepared to change your polish after a day or two.

My favourite of the three is the delicious purple. I'm literally going to wear it to death over the next few months; it's such a wearable shade that has a little 'something something' to differentiate it and make it look about five times the price that it is. The green is bold, although more difficult to wear - unless you're wearing a pretty plain outfit it's hard to match such an unusual colour. The dirty gold isn't my personal cup of tea though; there's something about it I don't quite feel drawn to. It changes colour every time you look at it too, so the above isn't a great representation of the final colour! Great colours though that cost the same as your morning coffee... Making it so much more justifiable to treat yourself to a new polish!

Makeup Doodle

I love twitter. I've met so many ace people and remained in contact with those I've met briefly through the wonder of Tweetdeck. Claire, aka Rude Doodle, always makes me laugh and we chat away about any old rubbish we can think of, as well as her asking for advice on what products she should be using. She's a bit of a self-confessed makeup newbie, so I sent her some products to keep herself occupied. This is what she thought...

London Beauty Queen sent me a few bits & bobs to test out this week. I am a bit of a make-up novice, so hopefully my reviews will give you a verdict on whether the products are easy to use, for those lacking the skills of the Beauty Queen herself!

First I tried Aveda's Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Cherry Blossom shade. It's your standard little lippy wand in a tube, nothing mind blowing there, but it's the decision to make it mint flavoured that made it different. I didn't like it. Why would I want toothpaste lips? Unless your other half has a dental hygiene problem that you want to sneakily hint at by kissing him with your Miss Drill The Dentist, minty mouth, I can't see the appeal. If my lip gloss has to taste of something, then why not cherry, as the shade name implies? As for the colour, you remember when you were six and your mum bought you a little make-up set with clear nail varnish and a pinky red lipshine? That's what I thought my lips looked like. I don't want people to think I got my make-up free with a pair of Lelli Kelli school shoes, thanks.

Next I tried Body Shop's eye shadow duo in Quartz shade. Whilst the colour wasn't great on me, I felt a bit like a 1970's roller disco girl, the quality is spot on for the price. The lighter pink its very iridescent and perfect to brighten up your eyes on these darker mornings. The purple shade contrasts perfectly & when used over a primer the colour is a gorgeous jewel tone.

Finally I used Rimmel's Extra Wow Lash mascara, in good, old, reliable black. Mascara is one of the make-up products I usually pester London Beauty Queen about every few months over on Twitter. I've never found a brand to settle on, and I'm always hoping she will have found 'The One' I can buy regularly forever more. At last no more awkward minutes in front of the makeup counters, feeling like a dodgy shoplifter staring at rows of mascara with no clue which will actually deliver the promises the hyperbolic names imply. Rimmel Extra Wow isn't quite that, but it's a decent little product. The wand gives light coverage, allowing you to build up layers and get the effect you want. I'll be using it until it runs out, but the quest for the ultimate mascara continues.
